Everyone in the Miami PD who accessed her data, or looked the other way, should be summarily fired, and charged with violations of her right to privacy. $2500 per infraction? How about $25,000?! What dickheads!
What about those inplane phones that were common in the '90s?
You could use those phones that were embedded in the back of the seat in front of you to make calls anywhere. What's the difference, other than you are using your own handset?
My wife is a particle physicist at FermiLab, and my father was an astro-physicist who studied cosmic rays and mesons. To say that this is cool stuff is an understatement! My father would love the work that Hawking et al are doing. FWIW, Fred Hoyle was a close family friend.
Needless to say, we know a lot less about this subject than we need in order to help make sense of this crazy universe!
My wife went to Cern a couple of years ago for some meetings about the search for the Higgs Bozon. All I got was a tee-shirt with the Higgs math printed on it... :-)
"After all this, Coburn orders DHS to hand over "a full, unredacted set of the documents" as soon as possible."
It should have been instead of "as soon as possible.", "immediately, within 24 hours, or be held in contempt of Congress and remanded into custody!"... Maybe THAT would have gotten the needed attention of DHS and the DOJ.
It is amazing how much difference 1 or 2 years can make in the life and behavior of a person. My granddaughter was a mother at 23, yet she seemed totally under-prepared for her new role. Now, a year and a bit later, she is a totally different person - top in her class, a dean's honor student, and ready to meet the world head-on! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it possible! I think that Snowden experienced a similar fugue when confronting his demons. It forced him to recognize just who, and what, he is - someone who CAN make a difference in the world we live in!
He has all of my respect, and well-wishes for his future.
I hope he sues the theater, MPAA, ICE, and Homeland (In)Security for a gazillion $$ and gets it! These asshats need to be given a new concern, other than if some dipwad is recording a movie!
Great 1988 SciFi 'B' movie - our society is controlled by aliens who can disguise their real appearance, and only special sunglasses can reveal their true face! Sound familiar? :-)
about the Presidential Oath of Office. Doesn't it have a little bit in it about swearing to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States? Here it is - short but sweet:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” (thanks Wikipedia).
Honestly Mike, are you serious!? Really, Snowden was a one-off job. Anyone else would be dead within a week... Just my humble opinion, as one who has dealt with these asshats in the past. I had contacts in the 1960's who could get me in contact with Fidel Castro in Cuba, and the CIA wanted me to "deal" with him. I had to spend the next 40 years under cover as a result of NOT bowing to their wishes!
The greatest members (and chief justices) of the US Supreme Court have often been belittled when they were so appointed, yet have proven themselves over time to be minds, and characters, of the highest caliber! Justice Earl Warren and others come to mind, and the very fine Jusice Thurgood Marshall as well - one who should have been a chief justice IMHO. :-)
He was originally against the FISA act, then when it came to a vote, he was for it. Personally, I think that the NSA or similar others found some "dirt" in his past and let him know that if he wanted to continue with his political aspirations (like becoming POTUS), then he would have to "play ball" with them. Well, he has certainly "played ball" with these asshats! Now, after Snowden, it is coming back to bite him on the ass! Payback is a bitch, isn't it Barack?
