back in the day it was fake notes from people and writing on bathroom walls, sure it wasnt as public but, it was just as "damaging" to the persons ego as this is.
the fact is, any employer whos not a total moron will see the fake page and dismiss it either as being a kids page(shes 14, 7th grade, not like facebook will be a big deal by the time she enters the serious job market)
I have sat in on a few discussions about hiring where they talked about having looked athe persons myspace page, the funny thing is, for the most part, everybody dismissed the myspace page because, myspace is dead....as facebook will be once the next big thing comes out to replace it.
if it was 1. real, and 2. an adults page, I could see this as a valid case, but in this case, I think the girl just needs to ignore it, fact is, very few people will think its real once she makes it clear its not her, infact, its very likely the kids doing it would start to be looked on with contempt if she dealth with it in an adult manner, rather then freaking out and trying to get the cops/school to solve her problems for her.
our society looks at anything and everything as an excuse to sue or get somebody arrested/fired/expelled.....very childish if you ask me....
the kids doing it are not in the right, they are childish little pratts, but, again they are kids, best move she could make would be to make it clear(calmly) that its not her facebook page, and just say stuff like "ha ha very funny" when they put rude stuff up, the fun would go away and they would stop their nonsense if she didnt react in the way they desired(freaking out)
you ask how i know this, I have been on both sides, people harass me, so i would do it back, but only till it stopped being fun, when it stops being fun is when you nolonger get the reaction you desire out of the target.
sad thing is, many people will take your statement as serious and may follow suet.
I get tired of this nanny state bullshit, and I am liberal on most things(but not A dem or repug), this coddling of people who have easily hurt feelings needs to end....
I think most of us likely grew up in public schools or even private schools where "bullying" (teasing) was a fact of life, and we didnt cry to our parents that "billy is making fun of me" we just delt with it and learned to adapt.
I was watching a video recently about "bullying" and 99% of it was teasing, not even what was called bullying when i was in school....no swirlies, no ganging up and cornering somebody to scare them...just teasing and stuff like getting hit with spitwads....(like that really hurts....)
if kids cant take that, its time to put them in diapers and baby mitts.....
I grew up a pudgy, red haired geek, I got "bullied" and teased constantly, Did I cry to my parents every time it happened( or ever)....nope, because the fact was, even the popular kids got teased....everybody gets shit from somebody in school.
I really feel that learning to deal with assholes/jerks when I was a kid better prepared me for adult life, Among other things I learned to laugh off people insulting me and tying to goad me into a fight.
I learned to not care what others thought of me, and to give as good as I got, again everybody gets shit in school and sorry I have to point this out but in adult life you still have to deal with those kind of people.
once you learn to not care what others think of you, you find its quite freeing you nolonger get worked up over little things.
My advice to parents of kids being teased/bullied at school, teach your kids to grow thicker skin, to give as good as they get, it will better prepare them for life then if you try and shelter them so when they enter the real world they are shocked at how mean people are and endup coming home and crying over how somebody at work was mean to them.....
oh yeah, like the other sides alternative will be any better.
let me say this again, neither side give a fuck about "we the people" they only care about their own power and wealth, both sides get huge donations(bribes) to run for office from big content.inc, big pharma and so on, they only care what their corporate masters want, and then only because they want to get re-elected :/
hes not been proven guilty yet hes been arrested, his home and all his accets taken away, hes under house arrest now.
how is that not an assumption of guilt?
if he where presumed innocent the wouldnt have had his home raided by anti terrorist troops, he wouldnt have had all his assets seized, he wouldnt have been imprisoned and then put on house arrest.
sorry but this is all guilty till proven innocent, rather then the flowery words of our system "innocent till proven guilty"
in reality this is just words, if your accused of anything, your treated as guilty and even referred to as guilty in all court proceedings till you have proven your innocence.
theres a huge disconnect between the word of law and the implementation/practice of said law.
speaking as somebody whos been there and watched friends also go through this shit....our legal systems only "fair" if your extremely rich of famous in this country, and even then, its a crapshoot if somebody even richer and more powerful wants you taken down a notch....
so let me get this strait, your argueing for guilty till proven innocent....good to know.
our systems all about guilty till proven innocent after all.
a true innocent till proven guilty system would be one where the accused isnt referred to as the perpetrator or arrested and jailed before being proven guilty.
sorry but being arrested and having all your possessions taken, your website destroyed, your reputation sullied is quite the opposite of an assumption of innocence.
that would be true for the ereader devices using eink screens, but the tablet forms (fire and tab) are tablet devices and people buy them for far more then reading books, infact, buying a lighted color screen tablet to use as a pure ebook reader is stupid....eye strain FTL
where are the apple long term partners that have never regretted it?
where are the sony long term partners that haven't regretted it?
i could list many other large companies who seem to screw anybody who does business with them....
and I will say, some software partners ms has im sure are happy with ms being on top, i mean only having to develop for 1 platform and support 1 platform is easier then trying to support 100,000 different distros of linux....
clearly somebody dosnt know much about how the xbox situations have been handled with both generations.....
MS isnt stupid, they have to many lawyers and MBA's but they arent stupid in this reguard.
MS will very likely view any win8 nook as a loss leader, they will foster it along till its making them a nice profit and has gained them a good market share, then put out a new model that will again be a loss leader, just like they did with the xbox and xbox 360.
sony also has done this with th playstation line, its smart, because as time goes on, cost to make these devices drops drastically and at the same price you go from loosing money to making it.
sorry Terry, but, in the case of IBM, ms cut the relationship because the track IBM was insisting on was doomed to fail.
look at why os/2 failed, it was NOT because it was a bad OS, it was not because of the OS price, it was because IBM INSISTED on charging outrageous prices for the development kit for it, very few developers could justify the cost for a platform that was dwarfed by windows, and man just couldnt afford to buy the kit at all....
MS has always done this better then IBM and its ilk, they gave away the dev kit or make kids stupidly cheap, they foster the software dev side because they know it will in turn bolster their OS sales.
and the Apple thing, Honestly, I dont know how anybody could feel sorry for apple...or jobs for that matter...the man who bragged about stealing good ideas, then years later said he was going to destroy android because it was a stolen product......
to you and Mike Masnick: from what i hear, despite being retired is quite common to see gates around MS headquarters, hes "Retired" but he also checks in and I think he gets board so he gos in and putters around....after all, no matter what anybody says, it is his company.
Honestly, the reason MS has had so many issues is because gates retired, if you look and the gates days, MS put out mostly good products, not perfect but alot less issues on average then since balmer took over.
part of this is the fact that balmer is a business guy whos got very little skill or understanding of tech and geeks in general.
balmer has put so many MBA's and Lawyers into the mix that the developers/designers have a hard time getting anything done.
EVERY SINGLE STEP of the process has to go past legal, and gets a market analysis, its retarded....its also why some kool projects never got past the planning stages...and why the zune was such a failure.....
In some says I feel sorry for MS and those who work there in dev/design, they are hampered at every step by people who dont really understand wtf is going on....it must be quite frustrating.
and the funniest part to me is that to this day there are still massive numbers of hacked servers running the game for players who wont shell out the (cheap as hell) price for the game.
and they even play the game via steam.....
the thing is, valve never even bothered to try and block them from what i have seen, why bother, if they wont pay the steam sale price, they clearly never are going to buy the game anyway.....so they arent costing you any money....(i think the game was like 7 bucks when somebody gifted it to me.....lol)
Re: Re: Re: Stardock also gives negative examples:
"You bought it via Impulse, it's still on Impulse AND if you want to re-download from Stardock, you can download it from http://download.stardock.com with your user account."
"I should also add that we do intend for new releases (like Fallen Enchantress and Sins Rebellion) to have their keys be interchangeable. "
"yes, I make my decisions based on what's best for Stardock. Providing good customer service is one of those things which is why we're making sure people can download their stuff from Stardock directly in the event they don't choose to continue to use Impulse. And yes, when a customer demands something that is not good for Stardock, I consider that unreasonable. Businesses that do that too often don't remain in business. I believe in enlightened self interest. "
so yeah, you can dl direct from stardock, no need for steam or impulse, they wont port keys(due to cost and likely hood of people selling the steam keys i bet)
so if your so butt hurt about it,dont buy their products, i doubt they will notice your absence, much like EA dosnt notice that I wont buy bf3 and activision wont notice when I refuse to buy diablo3.
1. no clue what your on about here, I have seen sins in stores and online....
2. WTF are you on about here, Sins and all other stardock games I have bought could be directly downloaded from stardock AND you could/can download the patches directly as well.
4. this was a good move, it got them out of the business of distributing DRM'd games for companies that cared more about insuring people who didnt buy the game cant play then about profits.
5. they really couldnt do this till they sold impulse, they also allow direct downloads if you buy on steam, steam just makes updates and buying cheaper/easier.
6. Impulse was a good idea but they made the mistake of allowing DRM titles on the service and it was causing them headaches trying ot support other companies buggered up DRM.
my advice is to contact stardock directly if you cant use your keys to get direct downloads or add them to steam(in testing People I know have managed to either get the same game activated on steam with the same key OR use the key direct on stardocks site to download the game and expantions.
its not stardocks fault your inept and dont know how to contact support.
