Actually there is doubt that Martin Luther ever nailed the The Ninety-Five Theses to the cathedral door but what you said is still good in principle. Indulgences were his biggest beef with the church. The fat cats were really raking in the gold for it.
Judge Wright advising the Pro Se Clinic, best laugh I had in days! In these days when the scary revelations about the government spying it is great to see a Team Prenda story for entertainment. These guys just don't get it. Judge Wright is on to all their bullshit. They may have fooled less savvy judges in the past but now this beat down will follow them wherever they go. Any subpenas they try to get from now on will be blocked. The ISP's will only have to present this court and a few others and even a less competent judge than Judge Wright will see them for what they are. Scheming, lying, fraudulent, incompetent boobs.
I was raised and educated a Catholic and rejected it all when I was about 15. This was back when those nuns could smack you around when you got out of line. I later converted to a very fundamentalist church. I studied and memorized the Bible. At one time I could speed recite nearly half of the new testament. I was surprised that much of what was drilled into me all those years was not in the Bible, Purgatory and indulgences among them. (Yes I know there is one verse in the Catholic Apocrypha that very weakly seems to support the idea of Purgatory) I fell out and have been agnostic for about 20 years. For a non catholic Mr. Geigner has a pretty good grasp of these subjects. Seems funny to me that the same office that said I would go to Hell for eating meat on Friday is now trying to be a cool hip dude. I guess I have one thing to be thankful for. I was 6th of 8 kids. My Mom had my baby sister when she was 45. I was teasing her one day that she was just an accident. Mom overheard this and said "I got news for you, after the 3rd kid you were all accidents. If it hadn't been for the pope you wouldn't be here!"
You may be right. From what I read the changes in power were not from revolutionary uprisings from the masses. It was men with power staging coups. In countries like you only have the powerful and wealthy and abject poverty. The latter probably don't have electricity much less internet access.
Didn't know much about this country but I did a I checked it out om Wikipedia. Looks like it has long history of oppressive leaders who came into power by overthrowing the previous government. Why is it that people fight so hard for leadership of some of the biggest backwards shit holes on this planet?
God has them beat by around 4000 years. In Exodus 3:13 he told Moses "And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you." Christ made reference to this and was accused of blasphemy in John 8:58 when he said "before Abraham was, I AM."
I believe that this is just the beginning of the revelations about spying. I would not be surprised if it turns out that the government has data from every phone company, every Google search, everybody's browsing history etc. 1984 is here. It is just three decades late.
I'm not saying that you are wrong but enlighten me how VLC player is infringing. Can't be infringing on Microsoft's WM player because VLC has always been years ahead with features and options that Microsoft eventually "borrows" for their player. All the way back to the DOS era Microsoft plays catch up with other people's programs. Every time there was a new version of DOS all the improvements were MS incorporating popular shareware utilities. For years every new version of Explorer was just rip offs of features that Firefox already had.
I'm 60 now and a very conservative driver especially compared to my younger years. I learned from a cop friend that police here will not stop you for 5 miles over unless they have another reason and usually not for less than 10. I break the law every time I drive when I go a little over the limit, not come to an absolute standstill at a stop sign or just push the yellow light a little. (No cameras here yet)
This guy was smart to go public. If anything happens to him now the government will not be able to cover it up. He would either "disappear" or end up under Guantánamo Bay. Now he better not get so much as a hangnail. Too many people consider him a hero. Eventually when all the truth comes out Watergate will pale in comparison. Senator Wyden and many others have been trying to get honest answers about this for some time. They will jump on this like stink on shit!
Yeah, he could be in some deep doo doo for this but his biggest worry should be that Judge Wright instigated an IRS investigation. If the judge is correct that Prenda didn't pay taxes on the millions they extorted they could all go away for life. The IRS took down Al Capone. I think they can handle these idiots.
While I agree that this should be legal I don't know what the big deal is. Cell phones are so cheap now and by the time your contract is up your phone is probably a couple generations out of date. Or else your battery is starting to get weak and a replacement is as much as a new phone.
Since I retired I have little need for a cell phone but I want one for emergencies. I canceled my AT&T that was costing me $43 dollars a month and bought a Tracfone for $19.95 with unlimited double minutes. I activated it with 130 minutes good for 5 months for another $20.
Just like Japan did, China is rapidly improving quality. The way they hold down costs is their workforce is practically slave labor. They live in crowed dormitories and are charged rent and meals that their low wages barely cover.
I used to work at Boeing and I remember when Chinese engineers for companies Boeing was outsourcing to were visiting our plant. The story in the paper said that they earned about the equivalent of about one dollar an hour and were provided a small apartment. At that time a union engineer here was in the range of $30 to $35 an hour. My job was basically unskilled labor and I made $26 an hour. That is not even counting the value of our benefits package.
One thing this article failed to mention is one of their recommendations was to implant ransomware into software code that would shut down computers with pirated copies until they contacted authorities to obtain a password to unlock it. Nothing could go wrong with that idea! I scanned through this report and they seem to blend patents, trademark, trade secrets and copyright infringement like they don't even know the difference. It was also odd that they didn't even seem to address infringement of movies and TV programs. As I said, I just scanned through it so I might have missed it if they did.
My bank's web site has been doing this for some time. I would think that the fact that this is such a common practice shows that there is nothing unique or patentable. Patents on such general concepts can only be used for one thing: trolling. I seriously doubt that anyone was even aware of Dotcom's patent and made a decision to steal it. This is not going to help him in his legal problems. It just makes him look so hypercritical.
Yeah, I know that she really couldn't do much in her made for TV role but I would love to see a judge with her blunt no-nonsense approach rip Prenda Law a new one. What Judge Wright did is very effective especially reporting them to the I.R.S. but I would still love to see them get the in-your-face ass chewing that Judge Judy would give them.
As pointed and cleverly worded as Judge Wright's sanctions were, I would have loved to have seen the ass chewing that Judge Judy could have given Prenda Law! Nothing subtle about her.
