Every freedom given up hands our enemies a massive victory because that is exactly what they want. There is no justification for this kind of spying and the expense involved in carrying it out (I would love to see figures on that, by the way). It is amazing the flagrant disregard the US government have for their own citizens' rights and the Constitution.
I think we are going about this in the wrong way. We should be trying to come up with justification in monetary terms as that is the only thing politicians understand.
And then he will wonder why people do not trust the EU and it's various commissions and committees.
Politicians need to be working to win back public confidence which, let's be honest has been on the decline for decades. This guy, however, seems to be doing his utmost to destroy public confidence to such an extent that it can never be won back.
Re: "That's obviously much more subtle than simply blocking these searches,"
Google are NOT the Internet. If you don't like their search engine, use another one. Google censorship is not even close to being the same as government censorship. A trained monkey could work that out.
"There is now a menace which is called Twitter," Erdogan said. "The best examples of lies can be found there. To me, social media is the worst menace to society."
I greatly doubt the actual band members care about such things or have anything to do with the action. This is their 'representatives' written all over it.
