My guess? The NSA got some good dirt on all of these dickheads (how hard could that be?) and used it to force them to change their vote... Nothing else makes any sense to me.
Obama lost my support when he switched, as Senator, his opposition to the Patriot Act, to support of it... His domestic policies be damned - they do NOT make up for his violation of the Constitution which he has SWORN to uphold and defend! He has become, IMO, a tyrant! Hopefully we will elect a new President in 2016 who will reverse most of these egregious activities!
So, for the nth time, I have to ask - when are these asshats going to lose their licenses to practice law?! Sanctions? Costs? Heck, until they realize that they are going to be living under a bridge somewhere, they will not stop their egregious behavior!
Where is the documentation of those they are "observing"? If they cannot, or will not, confirm who they are tracking, then we must assume (as a rational human) that they are tracking EVERYONE! So, all of us have "standing". Sounds like we all need to file suit against the DOJ and the US Government about this. Let's then see how they deal with that!
So, tell me, why do these butt-heads still have licenses to practice law in ANY state? Why aren't they sanctioned and disbarred? That is the question... :-(
I guess these knuckleheads never heard that there are only 7 degrees (links) of separation between any two people in the world? Actually, on average, there are far fewer than that. There is only 1 degree between me and former President Nixon, and zero degrees between me and the inventor of the H-bomb, Edward Teller, as well as Linus Pauling, Fred Hoyle, and many more such... So that means, that anyone who knows me is only 1 or 2 degrees separated from those people. So, if I know someone who knows (or has met) some terrorist when they were students in school, there are then only 1 or 2 degrees separating me from them. Does that make me a terrorist? And for whatever it's worth, I am zero degrees separated from the infamous "Weathermen" of Vietnam War fame (Chicago Riots, etc), though we were certainly NOT considered friends - quite the opposite! So, yes I knew "terrorists" of the last generation. The only incendiary device I ever threw was a pamphlet protesting the Vietnam "Conflict"...
The NSA has so much black-bag funding, plus all the "private" front companies that do R&D for them, that they will just move money from some projects, out-source the data gathering and surveillance programs to one of these entities, and go on doing "business" as usual.
And WHY do these dickheads still have licenses to practice law? Why aren't they disbarred already? Where is the US Bar Association in this case? Haven't they heard the term "due diligence"? They certainly are not practicing it...
This id10t has done the world a favor - there is a league of lawyers who just died laughing! Glad I'm not a lawyer, or I'd likely be one of them!... :-)
"In fact, anyone who claims that "it's just metadata" in an attempt to minimize what's happening is basically revealing that they haven't the slightest clue about what metadata is."
In reality, anyone who asserts this is disingenuous to the extreme. They know what metadata is, but they want to minimize the exposure to the general public what this really means to them!
The US has violated the first rule of espionage - just don't get caught! Violating that rule leave you open to all the cruft that we are facing now, and for good effect! To say that "everybody does it" is irrelevant - we know that already. The key is the "getting caught" part... Caveat spy master! The term "just deserts" comes to mind. :-)
