I think the bigger issue is that the US govt can do no wrong, it is a god.
It *claims* to be good, without looking to see if what it is, truly is, good. For some unfathomable reason, it thinks that it cannot be corrupt, with all that money pouring into it. Point is, it derides nations that do THE EXACT SAME THING, WITH THE EXACT SAME REASONS, but no, it is good because.... US govt is good(?)
so I asked in a chat i frequent, and "Sounds like the FBI has a case of the stupid" - German citizen.
A question though, why in the hell does this NOT run afoul of the CFAA?!? It DID access a computer without the user... owner's permission. That should carry a minimum of 20 years in prison.
Please look at this and take a very very hard look at this warning, because the second this shit happens in the US, the same shit will happen in the US, and it won't just be VPN users. I can guarantee it.
Online newspapers, NYT, etc. and online news channels (Fox, MSNBC, etc.) are acting as such, Newspapers, and to my knowledge, Newspapers never had a ... public comment section, it's all about the next headline. Sites like TD, are more like... online magazines, in my opinion
Let me ask this to TD readers, How often do you go to "news" sites, Fox, etc. on a regular basis, as opposed to going to said sites via links from external sources (reddit, twitter, etc.)
Now how often do you come to TechDirt to see what is going on. I mean, How often do we come to TD regardless of external linking?
by definition, TOR is primarily used by bad people. People under authoritarian regimes are going against their government, that is inherently bad, people should follow the laws of their countries and all.
Reporters use it to keep sources confidential. That too, is bad, there are laws (at least in the US) that protect anonymous sources going to the press. Again, you need to follow the laws to be a good citizen.
It *can* be used to obtain cheap life saving medicines. Again, you need to follow the laws, life saving medicines are already cheap (at least in the US). So you are being a *bad* guy by breaking the laws.
Champaign-Urbana is a big college town (U of I has main campus there).
but yes, 1982 Texas vs Johnson and recently the WBC decicion clearly states that unpopular speech is still free speech. I may not agree with it, but it is still their right to say what they want (within limits of course). I mean, if a Florida pastor can get away with burning a holy book....
this actually highlights a bigger issue... the terrorists have won, and will continue to win when things like this happen, it's because they want us to be afraid, and because we are acting as such, we are clearly afraid, scared little kids. The terrorists have indeed, instilled terror into our collective psyche.
next up in good old America: Arresting and Prosecuting literal 2 second old newborns because of crying! Gotta have those prison businesses booming and all!
HRC configured her private server so she can circumvent FIOA requests? And by doing so she put the lives of state dept personnel in jeopardy?
so if foreign agents wanted said information, instead of going through FIOA requests, they could just lift the unredacted documents straight from the server?
Does anyone else think that a) this totally defeats the purpose, and b) monumentally stupid?
Colonial history (in regards to the Americas) is directly tied to US history in that the Catholic church held a great deal of power over the politics of Great Britain, hence the establishment clause of the 1st amendment.
