I can understand case by case throttling in high density areas (read: metropolitan areas, Indy, Chicago, NYC, LA, LV, etc.) but... again that is case by case and rarely the case. and many, many, MANY more customers do NOT live in said urban areas.
This obviously reaches far beyond Star Trek, there has been ... a few other rather high profile (or at least not completely swept under the rug) cases of stuff like this happening (I am looking at YOU Hasbro!)
but all in all... I think it's good that there is "some" solution striking between fandoms and official releases. But as has been said, we need to hear the details first.
On a tangent... I would contend that anything not explicitly created by Gene Roddenberry (as in he having his hands on it directly) is inherently fan made.
Anyway, again, I'll ask: What more do you want Google to do that it's not doing already. Because they only thing you've mentioned, they're actually doing for all intents and purposes.
the point was that an industry that is outdated, and quite frankly obsolete by the arrival of new technologies are fighting (again) tooth and nail to destroy that technology in order to keep their industry afloat and profitable, at the expense of everyone else
