My question is, why bother with a study? Studies have been done. Lower the monitors, replace the (I'm sure) shit oem dell keyboards/mice with an ergo keyboard and user option a trackball.
See a problem, fix the cause. Why is this difficult?
I wonder if there would be a market for a website that held pledges for new songs in escrow, so the price could be distributed among several people. I imagine some contacts within the current music establishment would be required to drive big enough "name brand" bands into it to make a sustainable business of it though.
i suppose most character traits are evenly distributed across all the levels of economic status. from the gut though, i unavoidably tend to assume there must be some difference between the "well off" and myself and my parents.
We live in an unsafe world. people die. regularly.
Our rights and freedoms take precedence imo. Same as in the TSA articles.
Also, is the irresponsible parent that doesn't teach gun safety to their children while they own guns really going to be the same people who have good health insurance and/or can afford to / are willing to bring their children in for a q&a session with their doctor?
My problem with copyrighting ideas is, How close is too close?
I think I can safely assume they didn't use the script line by line. How much of the synopsis needs to be copied to be considered unoriginal?
Consider:
Original Version-
A reality show about people that go places and try to see ghosts.
Where is the line?-
A reality show about people that go places and try to see various Mythical creatures including ghosts.
A reality show about one guy that goes places tries to see ghosts.
A reality show about random contestants that go to haunted houses.
A reality show about people that go to one house and continuously try to scientifically prove ghosts exist.
A comedy show about people that go places and try to see ghosts.
A comedic fake reality show about ghosts trying to interact with humans.
A reality show about albino people with temper problems that rearrange furniture for a living.
Any of these are arguably 'slightly similar' or even 'mostly similar' or 'derivative.'
How could anyone possibly draw a line that makes any sense in anything approaching a universal manner? Any such system would start broken and only get worse.
What would be a much better solution than pop ups and nagware?
keep the full ui from the pay version in the free version. 'grey out' the pay-for functionality in the buttons and menus. In the online or in program help faq, explain that the 'reason to buy' features are unavailable in the free version.
No pop-ups or customer irritation required, and the customer would form a stronger attachment to the expanded features (that they would use) than they would from a list in a pop-up or on the companies website.
I can see it now.
Some /b/tards get together, re-hack the servers, pull all the logs, and disappear.
3 days later, the the cops receive an 'anon' tip that includes the actual perpetrators name, address, and recent photo, as well as a screen grab of the files on his home machine.
The next day, every website with sony in it's name redirects to the guy's facebook page, with "blame me" as his status update.
Shortly after that, they release the full source for the PS3 firmware. Every tenth line is commented 'lol'
What the hell can the damages possibly be? Where do they get the $1500/per? The most I've ever heard of a text message costing someone is a quarter. I don't see a confirmation message as causing any physical mental or emotional stress/damage.
What they need to do is take the computer from the last story and teach it to recognize genuine laughter. (kind of an extension of what it does anyway) Then if the judge lols the case is dismissed.
I truly don't understand the reasoning behind these nasa projects. Lets put a bunch of crap in space and see if it lives/germinates/etc in zero-g. If zero-g is such a problem why don't they just make ships that spin? It's the old zero-g pen vs. just grab a pencil joke in a new form.
done and done, yet another problem costing us who knows how much solved by yours truly. :) Maybe tomorrow I'll come up with an overly simplistic but potentially workable solution to world hunger.
Just like sitting in the emergency seats, they should have a "do you feel comfortable carrying a firearm?" type program that anyone who has gone through the checks for a concealed carry permit can opt in to. If (pull number directly from ass) 5% of passengers are carrying (more once constant travelers start applying for permits) they could totally skip security theater. I really don't see how a plane with a locked cockpit is really much different than a restaurant or movie theater when it comes down to it. People with a permit basically have been told by the government that they are trusted enough to not go on a killing spree. They could have a mandatory safety class much like a drivers test for people that want to carry on a plane. done and done. Fair, Legal, and Fool-proof method of stopping terrorists.
