I have actually changed how my adblocker works. On the main page of the top 12 sites I visit (what I have in my speeddial on firefox), I leave ads turned on. As soon as I click through to an article, though, I get no more flashy banners. Personally I think it is the best of both worlds. Sites get the views, I get to read the articles I want in detail without distraction.
You mean like the Arkansas tourist info one? Or the umpteen billion Microsoft ones? While I fully agree with you that Microsoft is scam, are you trying to say that Arkansas isn't real?
Which of course brings up the question of what exactly are you seeing in your ads? Have you been to bad places on the 'net? Maybe they just go you pegged. :)
One at a time we go:
1) Example?
2) Again, example?
3) The crystal ball isn't a paywall or subscription. It is an added bonus, and the people buying are allowed to determine whether or not it is worth the money. That seems to be an argument you don't understand. Consumers should be allowed to make their own decisions on what is worth their money, not the artist and definitely not large corporations.
4) see point #3, but as a matter of fact all t-shirts costs $5 to make(or less). It's called making a profit. I'm not going to say Mike is doing something wrong when every retailer in the US does the exact same thing.
5) No one is saying that making stuff doesn't take time, money, sweat and blood. What we are saying is that prices set arbitrarily, and monopolies set indefinitely are wrong. People should be allowed to choose what price they think fair (and the fact that "piracy" was/is rampant tells me that the music and movie industry hasn't hit what people consider fair) and artists and businesses should not be allowed to lock up culture(copyright, trademark) and knowledge(patents) forever. In the end that will kill humanity's future.
And, frankly, humanity's future is more important than any artist or corporation making money.
But I'm sure your rose colored glasses just read blah, blah, blah.
and.... as a linux user I can't upload using the music player(win and OSX only, obviously), and the cloud storage flash app crashes in chrome.
this is 2011, right? I didn't magically get transported to 2001, right? I'm allowed to use whatever OS I see fit, right? Right?! Obviously not in amazon's world.
Running Linux should be considered running "security software."
I love that everyone says computers, but what they actually mean is "Windows computers." 99.99 times out of 100, around the globe, an infected computer is a Windows computer(and most of those are unpatched WinXP machines). The other .01% is OSX and possibly Linux. (Though I think OSX is going to be on the rise soon if Apple doesn't get their ASLR and DEP shit straight.)
Well, the 24-bit version will sound more, not necessarily better. Lifehacker/Gizmodo has an interesting read if you want to pop over to ca.gizmodo.com.
Yes. shame on people having a basic expectation of privacy in their communications with other people. Obviously they are copyright violators and probably terrorists. And downright not nice people all around. I say we burn them. The government knows best, right?
Yea. Sony has lost all respect from me. And, like normal, the judge in this case is an idiot (like all judges it seems) and bowed to the one with money. Lady justice isn't blind. She's being gagged and beaten.
hi, me again:
every copy of linux does not come with firefox "built-in". many of them come with it "preinstalled." and some don't. Every linux distro allows you to remove any userland program you want, including the preinstalled browser(s).
Preinstalled != built-in
IE, on the other hand, is nigh unto impossible to remove completely, ergo: built-in.
I think anon above meant if MS removed the ability to install 3rd part programs on the OS, people would have a fit, and they would. Welcome to anti-trust suit 2: this times it's personal.
of course I'm with you, why give MS the chance? I just nuke it and go about my day.
