The stupidity of this is beyond me. Basically, Amazon are arguing that they don't have to pay a tax when they do. That's Tax Evasion, right?
Wrong.
They are not required to pay any taxes on purchases their customer's make. Even the order from the comptroller was not to "pay" taxes it was to COLLECT taxes from the customers and send them to the state.
Google would have been much better served to take a snarky approach. Off the cuff comments in a blog that point out that Google's engine is so good that when other search engines cant find the results they learn from google, would have made the point and not come off accusatory.
Google does not really do PR that well on a bunch of things like this.
8th Grade Science class. We were huddled in the school library watching. We were sent back to class and then they started updating the school VIA the PA system. Science teacher had a panic attack and was taken away on an Ambulance. Hit me pretty hard because I was a total NASA and Space program junkie.
So do you test the internet qualifications of your state Senators before you vote for them in your state? We really don't 'hire' them and their ability not to fark up their computer is pretty low on the list as far as what most people look for come election time.
The episode did not even really discuss the press issue. They covered the field trip and you heard how the situation was presented to the children and how they reacted. The Press issue was one of several in the scenario and was not even really talked about at all by the person in the segment.
I thought of TechDirt when I listened to the episode as I drove to work Yesterday. What was disturbing about the presentation was the part where they coached the "White House" kids into the argument with the press. "You Killed 19 soldiers" "you are a murderer" was difficult to listen to because little was done to balance that with the reality that the moment the President committed to sending troops in that death of US soldiers was a likely consequence.
As of Jan 1 Massachusetts upped list of drugs that require ID beyond Schedule 2 drugs such as OxyContin or Percocet. Now, drugs classified in Schedules 3, 4, and 5, which can range from cough medicine with codeine to anti-anxiety pills, require a photo ID to be recorded to purchase.
"But in response to an inquiry from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, an A&M campus about 155 miles north of Austin, the system's general counsel warned that a faculty member could be disciplined and even fired for directing students to file requests with any of the system's 12 universities and seven agencies."
In the broadest sense, the term private corporation refers to any business not owned by the state. This usage is often found in former Communist countries to differentiate from former state-owned enterprises, but it may be used anywhere when contrasting to a state-owned company.
This is the context that the term "Private Company" was used, It was not inferring that MasterCard and Visa were privately held companies, rather that they are not state run.
"Most recently, he's basically released a bunch of petty diplomatic bullshit and gossip, which hampers the diplomatic process. Nothing crazy illegal or awful mind you, just random bullshit."
So he should be killed? I really don't think I need to go much further than that.
