What they are doing is about like closing down a shop selling climbing gear and claiming it is to stop the cat burglars.
If you did things like this in the real world no one would stand for it. Can you imagine shutting down a Wal-mart because the meth dealer bought equipment for his meth lab there?
Or a perfect example would be. How about someone stored their drugs in a self storage unit. Would we tolerate the Government coming in and confiscating the entire property and destroying everything in it? Everything you had stored there taken and destroyed the money you paid lost, all because one guy thought it was a good place to hide drugs?
The sad part is that I feel just like I am watching a train crash. I can see it happening and I'm almost completely powerless to change it.
I hope maybe with coming elections we can get some new people in that understand the damage they are doing. I just feel that is highly unlikely. The media companies are the modern day version of the gladiators. They turn the eyes of the majority of people away from what it really important.
"I'd rather live in a world where global transparency and honesty is more important than my personal safety"
It is quickly coming to the point that all of us that feel that way need to stand up and show it. Standing up on this issue is going to take great risk to our personal safety but I personally am willing to die before I give up all my rights.
Hey now, lets not pick on the Transport Sex Assessment. They are keeping us safe from all those evil people who put down the wrong sex when filling out forms.
Its a rough job but someones got to grab your junk to make sure you really are what you say you are!
Have you actually looked at the sites people complain about the most? The Pirate Bay for example?
You really should take a look because then you will realize just how little is actually spent on "efforts on better user experience". Pirate sites tend to be pretty bare and ugly to look at. They are not the most user friendly. In general as web pages go pirate sites suck.
The reason people go there is because even though they are ugly and a pain to use they are STILL easier to deal with than movie studios options.
Ok, so Google should stop giving people what they want because it makes someone else unhappy? You realize what that would do? Simple, it would make the people go somewhere that will give them what they want. In other words you are asking Google to kill themselves because someone is not happy.
Maybe Google should just rig it so that any time you search for certain keywords iTunes will show up in the little ad box up top. They then can keep stats for how many people actually click on iTunes when they searched for "torrent". I am willing to bet not many clicks will to to iTunes.
Yay, you found where someone tells you how to use a service for scams. I guess now we should go after every other service you can find such tutorials for. Of course we will then need to shut down DNS registration, phone system, USPS, e-mail, ect
Yup and by your logic the government should be allowed to have cameras in all our homes and businesses. Every move every person makes should be watched. Privacy is just a shield criminals hide behind.
In other words, until you setup webcams in every part of your house broadcasting 24/7 to the web so we can be sure you are not doing anything illegal I will just reject any arguments you make to take away my privacy online.
Well it is not really that simple is it? You say I have the "right" to leave the country. What do you think will happen when I try to board a plane for another country? After getting raped by the TSA they are going to tell me I cant leave without passport. The other country also will not let me in. So no I don't really have the right to leave.
On to other point. I am a US citizen. I was raised to be proud of what this nation stood for. I refuse to leave because some asshole is screwing the nation up. I will stand and fight for what principles this nation was built on. I will not abandon it to be destroyed.
That is exactly what keeps happening, they say they need stricter laws and then cry about not getting them and talk about meeting in the middle. By doing this it slowly ratchets upward a little each time.
I think it is time we need to go on a counter offensive. We need to start demanding each year that copyright be reduced. Then when they say no we should cry and demand they meet us in the middle.
If so I might have to sign up for DOJ job. The Nazis were wrong about a lot of things and did a lot of evil things but you have to admit they had damn nice uniforms.
I find it interesting how often you trolls confuse stating facts with endorsing the actions. Mike is not saying that it is ok to pirate peoples work or justifying the action. He is simply stating the fact that if people do not like you they will not support you. This is simple fact of life.
If you ran a store and you treated all your customers like dirt then few people would shop there and you would have problems with stealing. The more security you put up the more trouble you will have.
On the other hand if you run a nice store and make a connection with your customers. You treat them like friends and are kind to them then you will not have as much stolen and more people will shop there. As a result you save tons on security.
If they made this "tons" of money as you claim they did then don't you think they would have used it to fight these legal battles? Also, did you really not notice a single problem with the way that investigation and trial went? Anyone with any bias in a case should not be allowed to take part in it. Here there were people being bought off left and right.
