Unfortunately Americans are currently spamming Nigerian social media with QAnon conspiracies, claiming American Democrats are stealing their children so soon enough it'll be very unlikely they'll want anything to do with the US.
Misleading was the point. The people who read the post will infer that the kid earned millions and will go on to repeat that as fact until it's accepted as such because it can't be disproven due to NDA's. No doubt the intent is to make independent journalists and smaller outlets think twice before reporting on right wing misbehaviour.
They likely paid him a few thousand to make him go away rather than run up millions in legal fees they'll never recover when they win.
The average conservative needs the captive audience of friends, family and co-workers for their bullpoop, so as much as they moan about being oppressed by being expected to follow the rules of the platform, they're not going to a place where all they're doing is shouting into the void. Big name conservative talking heads are only interested in being somewhere they have that audience so they were never seriously going to Parler either, they were hoping they could use the threatened mass exodus to get extra special treatment they get on top of the special treatment they already receive. Twitter, like so many major companies, know that conservative boycott don't work, they've threatened them dozens of times a month since the 90s and so far the only things they've harmed are themselves setting cereal on fire, and the career of the Dixie Chicks.
We're going to see far right militias kidnapping and murdering protest leaders before the election, aren't we? They've given them the cover they need and they already have the disguises.
I twisted my ankle while jogging earlier. As I limped to go sit down, I couldn't help but feel that it that never would have happened with stronger copyright laws in place and suffering is nothing compared to those of authors whose works might be looked at by people who haven't paid full price.
'Hi Europe, ban Chinese tech as they may be spying. Buy American instead, at least you know we're spying so don't need to worry about what we might be up to!'
'I wish to return to the days where I had a platform from which I could issue proclamations to the plebs and receive zero pushback for being a bigot because I'm completely insulated from the wider world and the consequences of the racism, misogyny and homophobia I espouse. In the good old days, the only people I met who'd discuss my work are friends, colleagues and carefully selected critics who believe I fart pure rainbows into my haemorrhoid pillow as I type my latest diatribe on why the Bell Curve might have been right after all.'
The only surprise about this is it took them so long. They tried to kick out children who were in America for life saving medical care, there is no depth they won't sink to.
And Susan Collins. She's very good at the media game, pretending she's going to vote against the party on horrible legislation, but she's a rubber stamp.
Few people may watch it, but only a small fraction of americans watch Fox News and they still manage to do vast amounts of damage to the western world. The crap that originates in these places still manages to circulate, the stories get repeated, passed along, reported on by other outlets until they're accepted as fact by the elderly and gullible.
A thimbleful of raw sewage in the punchbowl is still probably going to make people sick.
Because it's not part of the Fox News issued talking points and never will be. The DMCA benefits traditional media companies like Fox, so it's not going to pop onto their radar as something to change unless they work out a way to make it worse. Smaller time republican journalists and talking heads wont mention it as they all want to get Fox gigs down the line as the next stage of the grift.
The walls of the various walled gardens are only going to get more costly to enter as time goes on and people will argue it's necessary. 'Gwynneth Paltrow isn't going to make infomercials shilling her batpoop insane lifestyle brand for free you know!'
I can't wait for the first time one of the users of Parler falls afoul of scientology or the Jehova's witnesses and ends up in the legal crosshairs. Twitter, for all it's faults will stand and fight to protect it's users from frivolous lawsuits like those brought by Devin Nunes, Parler will throw them under the bus in a heartbeat and then send them a bill for the pleasure. Afterwards they'll start censoring all mentions of what brought the suit, to protect free speech.
'We're all about free speech... just don't expect us to defend your speech when it may cost us money.'
If they use Parler they've intentionally made the choice to avoid being anywhere they're likely to be challenged for their nonsense, preferring a safe conservative bubble where they can rant about Obama and breathe their own farts.
If people know how they're training cops to torture and kill with immunity, they'll pressure police departments to stop using them. Look at what happened once people started to become aware that Killology courses were a thing, that Dave Grossman was going out there and teaching cops deadly force is always necessary, he's started losing clients, not as many as he should, but there was an impact. The others teaching murderous pseudoscience to cops will move heaven and earth to minimise what people know, and the cops will help.
