Probably because what they are censoring freedom and ideals. The Chinese government has little issue with its citizens copying copyrighted materials...at least until the content industry can muster enough Yuan to influence the government.

no comments on the money lost, the stores closed, and the recorded music industry decimated by piracy
And it only took a 12-year-old girl and her friends to do all that. Wow! Piracy is really evil!!! Either that or there is something wrong with how the recording industry makes money.

Re:
The lawyers were happy...they still got paid. Their employers (recording industry) only got $2k and a legal precedent of sorts...which completely stopped piracy in Australia (sarc).

London 1908, 1948, 2012. So if your lifetime was less than 40 years...which, I guess there is a sample of those whose lifetime is mere minutes or days. So I guess the "once-in-a-lifetime" holds for their argument.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
Maybe I will rewrite that to make a little clearer.
Maybe because they (Google;YouTube) host the shop on their platform (YouTube's Merch Shop)...just like they (Amazon/iTunes) host the music (of bands)...you (AC/BKO) know (implying understanding) providing a useful service to the band. The Merch Shop is a one stop shop. The other services sell specific items (t-shirts, music, merch). I was not implying that Amazon or iTunes gets a cut of t-shirt sales. Google does...when Topspin sells a t-shirt through the Merch Shop, Google gets a kickback from Topspin.

And he's also a complete coward and little man that is afraid to come out and admit he supports piracy.
They don't come any slimier than Pirate Mike Masnick.
You would have to question mondern reading comprehension to think this statement is making that point. And if you would have "learned to threaded mode" you would notice fogbugzd was not responding to you...ergo, not ignoring the point.

We don't dislike useful middlemen just pointless middlemen...who scream and cry when their monopoly rents disappear because their services are less valuable, nigh on obsolete.

Re: Re:
So, a defendant, using the same tactics as lawyer trolls is now denying justice!? Everybody has their right to have their day in court. If a defendant can fight a boilerplate threat with a boilerplate "kit" motion then, by golly, that is his right by law. If the troll doesn't think he has a good case, whereas he doesn't have much of a burden of proof (like in most cases), then he shouldn't fight it. If the return isn't worth the court battle then don't start the fight. Of course, it would make more sense to go after high profile infringers (politicians, etc.) and focus on commercial infringement but these trolls are looking for fools to roll over and pay up a settlement without putting up a fight. Mr. White...your bluff has been called...do you fold or go all in?

Re: Re: Re: Because it's not-- it's about stopping piracy
he guy is facing the same jail term as the thief merely for driving a car. By your logic, driving a car isn't a crime so the driver should avoid jail.
Would I be an accessory to theft if I yelled out in a crowded bar that I just hid $10k under my mattress and I usually don't lock the door. A thief is also sitting in the bar and goes to my house and steals my money. Does that make me an accessory? Don't be silly. Your examples do not represent the case I was making.

Re: Because it's not-- it's about stopping piracy
Stopping you from distributing someone else's work is not censorship. Stopping you from distributing your own creation is. This site can't make a distinction.
Neither can a search engine. Reality is that it is not illegal to tell somebody how to break the law...it is only illegal to break the law? Pointing somebody to a place to get infringing material is not breaking the law and is actually free speech. Would I get thrown in jail for telling an undercover agent that he could go buy drugs from that white house down the street?
