He accessed information that he had permissions to access? Or was it in a folder he should not have had access to? If he used someone else's password or their system while they stepped away, yes this would be illegal and would warrant a trial. If he accessed his user drive and took that information, then no, not hacking. If you accessed facebook by typing in Facebook.com then no, no illegal, You found a way around the blocks put in place? This would be on the edge. You broke through the web filtering using an exploit? yes, illegal.
I know for a fact that if I were on a plane and the hijackers were only holding knives, yeah, I would need a doctor but screw you am I letting you control my life with a freakin knife.
I worked for the state of Vermont in IT several years ago, back when Verizon made this big promise to make sure every town in Vermont had broadband access. In turn, verizon got some nice contracts from the state and a big huge subsidy to cover the cost of running the cables. Adelphia/Comcast/Xfinity also was apart of that deal. Adelphia went bankrupt because the owners used the company's mony to buy themselves nice things, I wont even talk about Comcast. Verizon, after passing the time limit and the 4 extensions sold all of their wired holdings in VT to Fairpoint who already had gone bankrupt once and from what I hear their service is horrible and they have not even updated their network let alone expand it anywhere. Now what happened to those subsidies? I am sure some exec got a nice little cottage some where.
"So, now drivers will be battling choppy framerates and the "fog of war driving." The previously-useful GPS system will be neutered into a "safe for driving" dashboard Rotoscope, offering directions moments after you need them and a view of the surrounding area just as you exit it. Somehow the NHTSA believes that this crippled technology would be better and less distracting for drivers."
“If new gTLDs targeted to these sectors – e.g., .music, .movies, .games – are launched without adequate safeguards, they could become havens for continued and increased criminal and illegal activity,” the statement says.
With the MAFFIA and RIAA and such running them, they would absolutely be havens for criminal activity...Labels not paying their artists is a crime afterall...
One of the Contracting companies I had worked for had several customers who recorded online training sessions for everything from On the job safety to full feature indie movies. They all backed up to Livevault and most of their high def videos were on there. I would assume they are not the only ones? What about advertising companies? Companies that do demos? Companies who allow users to store their personal music on their systems to allow for a relaxing work place?
Still the annoying factor persists. My case in point is, I am very OCD and so other minor personality issues. I was seated next to a guy who had his cellphone on while we were waiting to take off (after the turn off cellphone sign lit up) which normally wouldn't bother me however, not only was I listening to one half of a heated argument but the gentleman next to me was very, vocal and animate with hand and arm gestures equally flailing randomly. I actually thought he might be having a seizure of some sort. I feel that sort of thing would be a good reason to ban them, tight quarters and people who can't sit still is not a good combination.
So...what you are saying is...there are social...sites....that focus on helping people...leave...social sites...is that also where the people who are addicted to chat rooms go for group therapy?
So this PC is connected to the internet...and to the power regulation modules? That would mean this PC is forming a bridge connecting the power grid controls to the internet. There are ways to make that not so. I know, I do this stuff for a living.

I am almost certain that it was either a student who couldn't speak for the school anyhow and this lawyer knew it and was grasping at straws to add to the bully train or the person stated that they would inform the group of the complaint and that he was certain that they had no intent on infringing on anyone's Copy protections.
