Well, What I would like to see then is the courts to look at it like theft. If I broke into you house and stole a $30 TV the courts are going to laugh at you for sueing me and at most I might pay you a few hundred dollars. So why are these companies allowed to sue people for thousands in "damages" when what they "stole" is worth much less than $30 in most cases.
I mean I can buy an MP3 for $.99 so how can downloading it for free add up to thousands in "damage". Even if I downloaded it and shared it with my friends I'm only actually costing the company maybe $40-50 at the high end and that is only if everyone was going to actually buy it.
Re: Re: If keeping something from the market is censorship, then piracy=censorship.
It gets even better than that. There are many who suspect that Shakespeare did not actually write all his plays. So one of those is even a filthy pirate!
Well I am sure the internet community as a whole can do a better job than our current politicians. But, then again a retarded monkey banging on a typewriter could do better than our current politicians.
Well, it is actually quite simple. You see the tech industry it doing very well. Their current buisness methods are making them money. They can easily just continue on the path they are on. They provide the services people want and adapt to the changing desires of the population.
The entertainment industry on the other hand is complaining that they are not making as much money as they want and telling the tech industry it must change to support them. Why should the tech industry throw away something that is working for them in order to help someone who is failing?
It is like two restaurants running in the same town. One is doing great and the other struggling. The one doing well has been nice and suggested some changes to help save the failing restaurant. The owner of the failing restaurant though insists that instead of him changing his business the one doing well needs to change what they are doing.
I'm not at all surprised that they would try to cover up anything that might embarrassed them. Although I'm surprised they were not more creative with the redaction. They totally could have had some fun with the UFO hunters.
Of particular concern is the issue of overflights by _____________. Italian prosecutors allege that ______________traversed Swiss airspace on the day __________ was abducted. ____________________________ Washington has yet to respond.
Unless I am greatly mistaken there are quite a few flaws in that logic. Fist being that copyright expireing on software would not mean that the creator would have to release the source code for his program. It just means he no longer has the right to go after others for copying it. So would be a lot of work for people to reverse engineer it. Not impossible but not super easy.
Also, stop and take a look at 95 and 98. Would you like to jump back to using them? I am willing to bet most people don't want to. Why is that? It is because of the new features found in new versions of windows. These new features would still be under copyright and protected. So someone copying 98 is little threat to microsoft.
I would alter that just a slightly to say that upon the death of the creator they should be able to give the copyright to someone as part of their will. That way writers and such can still give something to their children.
This would not extend it though. If their is a year left of the copyright when the creator dies then their family gets the copyright for last year.
The trouble I see with this is that if you just limit it to "manner which any average literate person can comprehend" then the laws will still be above the comprehension of the morons in Washington.
I think you just proved how little point there is to copyright past 56+ years. A very small part of infringement is on work that old. Why do you think that is? Is it because the pirates have such respect for old work they won't pirate it?
No one pirates work that old because there is so little demand for it. If pirates cant even give it away is anyone actually still selling it? If you are not selling your work then why cling to your copyrights? Give it to the public so that those who do want it can enjoy it freely.
Only problem I see with this would be you would be creating a huge home for trolls. People would try and let their works sit idle till someone used it then jump up and sue. It would become really hard to tell what is public domain and what wasn't.
Look at it this way though. While yes 58 years is too long it is at least a step in the right direction. Those who kept pushing the copyright out farther and farther did not go from copyright of 20 years to having the almost infinite copyright they have now.
You also have to anticipate the fact that the content industry will fight back. So we have to try for something we might can get. Sure it is not as far back as we would like but it is a heck of a lot better than what we have now.
Hey try not to lump all of us in with our political leaders. The morons in charge of this country have quit listening to the people and just do what they please. It is not like I want this in any form. I don't want the US to sign it and I don't want any other country to sign it ether.
The problem is that the idiots passing these laws don't care about the people they are supposed to represent. They are just doing whatever they think will get them the most money.
That is exactly what he should have done too. Should have publicly stated he would not sign it as it was written because it was not constitutional and send it back to congress. It would have made those in congress scramble to get something he would sign.
This whole thing has turned into a huge joke. No one in Washington really seems willing to stand up firmly for what is right.
That is very true and one of the things I find sickening. The US has no business sticking it's nose into every other country around the world. It is very little wonder that the US is so hated and that there are those that want to kill us. I look at the US government and can totally understand that feeling.
Is it just me that is sickened to realize that the US no longer has the right to be considered "the backbone of freedom"?
I was once so very proud of this country and now almost everything to do with the government just makes me sick. They are destroying everything this nation once was.
I really have just started to seriously look into 3d printing myself. I can tell you though that there was a kickstart project for a home use machine to recycle plastic bottles and make them into 3d printer material.
You can send that company a 3D model and have it printed in steel. So the idea of printing useful objects is already here. The 3D printing technology is already around and very quickly advancing.
Kickstart had a project with a guy creating kits for you to make your own 3D printer. They were only about $400 and could easily print small plastic objects. These cheep models are kind of crude but advancing fast. It will not be long before printing out usable objects in your home is possible for average person.
Hmm, where to start. Well for one the pirate bay is obviously getting paid for the banner adds on the site. This probably pays their server bills and that is about all. It is not cheep to run that big a site.
This post is talking about free advertising on the front page of pirate bay, not a small banner ad. This would be great promotion for an unheard of band. It would not help pirate bay out in any way at all. So the actual web site owners are still not making any real money of this "piracy".
Well you say real innovators are problem solvers. There is definitely a problem with the way things are going in Washington. So some of these innovators will start working to fix the problems. If the fix is to put Hollywood back in their place and make them realize they are not god then well whats wrong with that?
