As Mike noted, turntable.fm is buggy. I have not used it enough yet to enjoy it, because I cannot get it to work with my browser of choice (which happens to be the browser with the largest market share, even if it is still in vogue to bash the browser, its company, and its users).
According to the Kansas City Star, Sen. Jane Cunningham, who sponsored the bill, said "If social media are a pathway to sexual misconduct — which we have found that they are — then eventually (this law) is going to stop the whole problem."
It scares the hell out of me that one of my legislators has her head so far in the sand that she thinks addressing this single supposed "pathway" is truly going to eliminate inappropriate teacher-student sexual relationships.
Re: Leave it to the illiterate hicks in Missouri...
"Missouri's legislators should probably stick to what they know best: supporting institutional racism and bigotry."
Show links or admit you made this up. Missouri's legislators have made a lot of poor decisions in the last few years, including overturning the will of the voters on some laws and skating on some incredibly thin ethical ice on some issues, but I can't find a single instance of what you claim.
The choices in the Netflix streaming catalog are not nearly as numerous or as current as their DVD offerings. If the catalogs were identical, I would believe it, and I would drop the DVD portion in a heartbeat (or as soon as I could convince my wife to, since the account is actually in her name). Although I then would not be able to watch movies/shows in my bedroom, since there is not a computer or any streaming device in there.
Dammit, none of my lame-ass music hating commie pinko facebook friends have this! Neither do any of my cool music loving God-fearing gun-toting rock star musician friends, so I can't get in on all the turntable.fm lovin'.
I agree 100% with the statement "If it was Diet Coke or something instead of music, you’d pay me to mention your product."
This is what has always confused me about rhythm games - shouldn't the music copyright holders have been paying the game developers for using the music to further interest in the songs, rather than the other way around?
Maybe Anonymous can hack into these newspapers' sites and and set up the robots.txt file for them, telling google and all other search engines to move along; nothing to see here.
Maybe they add value by giving the factual story only to the ones who pay and go through the gate instead of going through the gaping holes in the paywall.
that Mr. Bon Jovi has never sat down and actually listened to his albums all the way through. I used to force myself to listen to every song on a new cassette at least once, so I would know which ones to skip using music search or my own mixtapes. I heard "King of the Mountain" and "(I Don't Wanna Fall)To the Fire" from 7800° Fahrenheit voluntarily exactly once.
"But all of the business models you bring up tend to depend on it continuing."
Not true at all - the business models he brings up tend to be ways for content creators to make money DESPITE content users continuing unauthorized downloads. If unauthorized downloading suddenly and miraculously ceased tomorrow, connecting with fans and giving them a reason to buy would still make the content creators money.
By the way, labels don't make high quality music - musicians do. If you work for a label, I hope that doesn't hurt your feelings.
I do watch/read Fox News somewhat, just because CNN and most other mainstream media have such a leftist stance on most things. For me the "fair and balanced" comes from reading from several sources and making my own decisions. I don't really completely believe any single news source without knowing and trusting their sources.
Back before the big labels killed my love of buying shiny plastic discs, this used to drive me crazy. If it was something I liked but was't very popular and wasn't being played any more by the time the CD was released, chances were that I would forget about it and never buy it. If it was by an artist in whom I already had an interest, I was going to buy the disc when it came out regardless of when (or whether) it was played on the radio, so it did not build any additional anticipation for me - just frustration that I could not listen to a finished product because of the whim of some label fatcat. I always felt like it was just them showing me that they, not I, had the power. Well, I showed them, didn't I! I used to buy an average of one or two CDs a month, but as my frustration with the business process grew and my awareness of other sources of music grew, my purchases tapered off. Since 2005 I think I have bought four CDs in total; two by the same artist.
Exactly. I was just thinking this is the first time I have ever heard of Dawn Simorangkir or this two year old catfight. Not that I follow fashion (or Courtney Love for that matter).
