Short-Sighted pretty much defines a large chunk of Wall Street and large corporations now. If it doesn't factor into a quarterly profit; then it's not important.
Luckily, for some, the Short-Sightedness of Wall Street can prove to be profitable...
Reason is - the other 'chatter' you hear about a lot is how fat everyone is. So...
Get off of YouTube, quit watching movies, and get out and do something. No licensing or use issues - if you aren't using it!
I barely have time to sit and watch a half hour of news, much less a movie. Why would I bother at this point paying for ANYTHING past regular old cable? I can't backup DVD's - so that tosses half their value out the window for me anyway.
So I'll just DVR little things of moderate interest and keep busy - AWAY from media. Works for me, and saves me money.
So ban whatever media you want, we will (your customers) find something else to do - keep your media, lol.
Oh and sorry - I spent too much money on paint and other things to put more repairs on my house - I might drop a movie channel or two - just because of this - another victory for the content industry.
You're too busy pissing off your paying customers to notice they are walking right out the door...
So kind of like a newer technological, but Nazi-esque 'papers please' concept?
Technology advances almost as fast as politics regress. Soon we'll have wonderful technology, but sadly by then, we'll be back in a feudalistic society.
Free broadcast radio and TV is what made vast amounts of media profitable.
Without 'recording' and duplicating devices - the entertainment industry as we know it, wouldn't exist.
I just think the industries that are litigating don't understand new media or have run out of ideas on how to market it. Artists should make a note of that fact - the fact that the companies they are contracting with, aren't keeping up with changes in media. The changes in media - are here to stay.
All the more reason to use the regular old phone. They sure do over-complicate phones anymore.
Some of us actually like simplicity and hate being on the phone, lol.
I really don't want the web while I'm at the store, I don't need the web waiting in the doc's office. Not for what you pay for the data plans and the phones, along with the hassles.
When I'm 'away' from my computer - I like to be just that - away from the computer.
Microsoft's recent moves make me want to go out and short their stock - that's quite tempting you know...
I don't blame the record companies for suing on behalf of the artists. In fact, I wouldn't blame the artist for hunting the offenders down and beating them senseless.
So then - why would an artist even consider putting their own music on the radio for 'free' if it's that detrimental to their profits?
It is zero cost to the consumer, short of buying and powering a device to receive the signal...
They can sue, sue, sue, sue - but I really doubt it will work. If the web becomes draconian and monitors everything - people will trade CD's. Just like cassettes in the 80's.
And once again - I will not buy music I have not heard for 'free' - 98% of the time.
Bought more CD's in the last year because I heard it for 'free' on Pandora than I have over the last 10 years.
People who are going to steal are going to do it digitally or just take it in the store. I wonder - if physical CD theft has dropped dramatically (you'd almost have to be an idiot to risk stealing one now) - and how that impacts the artist and company as well... interesting angle to think about.
"Free" Radio drove the record industry - pretty much from the beginning. Why do they think 'free' won't work anyway?
Hasn't radio proven it will?
How else will people hear the music? I'm not just paying for something I've never heard - forget that.
Somehow the business model will have to incorporate 'free' media on the web, at least to a degree. Just as it had to 'endure' radio. If not for that 'free' Radio, I bet **exponentially** less music would have been sold over the history of media.
But others blame music for murderers. Some blame TV, I'm sure long ago many blamed books.
Now, we just have the same set of fools blaming the internet. There will always be fools that will seek to blame something other than the murderer themselves. But they need to get a clue - the murderer in all cases, is the one that chooses to kill. Internet, Music, TV, Video Games, or none of that - some will still seek to kill.
But just don't expect some of the more 'small minded' humans to understand that.
Err, MS don't have to notify Bing, do they? The fact that Bing simply scrapes Google to get their search results means that, shortly after it disappears from Google, it will also disappear from Bing, no?
Yes, another interesting thought - which would possibly be a violation of Google's terms of use. Assuming they are scraping it - they are indeed using it then.
This might make for a very interesting experiment with these take downs - I wonder if it will still be there in a couple days... on bing.
If Microsoft decides to sue me, I'll point this out. Since it appears that Microsoft's search engine is directing people to downloads of Microsoft's product, it is a reasonable assumption that Microsoft is supporting the distribution of their software via that means.
That's a good point actually... So since an 'official' Microsoft site is in fact pointing us there...
