i think it was over at soylent news, but one uber-nerd had a complete technical explanation for how MS fucked up BEYOND the legal shenanigans, and did a technical snafu which not only borked the legit customers they were *supposedly* leaving unscathed, but *also* messed up their own 'honey pot' game and gave the (so-called) perps enough head start to get the puck out of dodge...
these drones (own a micro-quad w/cam myself) will become a very useful tool for civilian use... (of COURSE -like much technology- the military/etc will take advantage to work their bit of evil with the other edge of the two-edged tool...) but, like buggy whip makers* twisted the law to get flag carriers parading in front of early cars, not to *benefit* cars/public, but to impede its adoption; the status quo defenders of today will seem silly and selfish in retrospect...
(* citation needed; or is it a generalization used as a shorthand to symbolize the manner in which entrenched interests control the law, etc to favor their own ends, and not the interests of the public at large ?)

automobile: a personal transportation device based on a power source of constant explosions fed from a rolling tank of doom full of liquid, highly-flammable hydrocarbons, 'protected' by a thin layer of rusting steel... what could go wrong ? ? ?
well, but, of course: banksters crashing the world economy, violating laws and morality left and right: no problem, no investigation, no arrests, no convictions...
'unscrupulous' gamers using some obscure cheat method on a STUPID FUCKING GAME: THE END OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, they must be strung up ! ! !
can't remember if i've bored the kampers here with my personal observations, but our 10 acres is usually absolutely chock full of spiders, mostly golden orb weavers and crab spiders, but all kinds... the last couple years, the spider population has crashed, we used to carry a 'spider-stick' to brush away the webs when we walked the trails through the woods; now ? don't need it, hardly 1/100th of how many there used to be... is it coincidental that the number of observed anoles, blue-tailed skinks, snakes has gone way down too ? ? ? (oh, and fuk u spel czech, anoles and skinks are both 'real' words, what useless crap...) couple more spider factoids: if you didn't know, ALL spiders are venomous, just some is so weak it is not a threat... if you go out on your lawn at dusk/night, and shine your flashlight, *most* of the reflections you think is moisture or dew on the grass, are spider eyes looking back at you...
i've thought about these issues from many angles, but neglected to take that into consideration, GREAT POINT...
as per usual, the ONLY people who don't know about the evil being done with OUR MONEY, is US; all the pakistanis, etc know they are being droned to death, its just that WE DON'T KNOW 'WE' are doing it...
(not that there aren't a disappointing number of citizens who don't give a shit about droning poor brown people a half a planet away for no good -or legal- reason...)
i would only add that we calmly accept that 20-30 THOUSAND of our precious amerikan nekkid apes die in automobile crashes every year, year in, year out (not to mention ANY number of causes of large number of deaths), but we barely bat an eyelash at *that* incredible (and largely preventable) waste of human lives; but let a mere few hundreds or thousands get killed ONCE IN A BLUE MOON, and chicken little squawks about how the sky is falling...
we got a hundred ways to die which are more numerous, more wasteful, and more preventable than -on average- a couple deaths a year from 'terrorism', but 'we' (meaning our puppetmasters of the propaganda) gin up hysteria over something that is not likely to happen to 99.9999999999% of us...
we are -what is it?- 8-10 times MORE LIKELY to be killed by a donut-eater than a terrorist, so why aren't we declaring War On Kops ? ? ? (they've already declared war on US...)
a good point, and -again- makes me wonder why the redskins are singled out for this 'honor'... I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD a good or reasonable explanation for why *THIS* name is insulting, but the others (Braves, chiefs, etc) are not... (which reminds me: wasn't their mascot named 'Chief Takhomasak' in coordination with steak-n-shake, or something ? but *that* wasn't an indication the Braves was racist ?) seems VERY arbitrary to me... what about long time products like 'Uncle Ben's Rice', i can easily see how that would be offensive to blacks, EVEN THOUGH it isn't like it is 'Old Nigger Rice', it is STILL possible to be offended by historical images of black servants... hell, what about 'Aunt Jemimah' ? i have NO DOUBT that was a racist image being peddled, NOT an honorific to show how much they respected the ability of blacks to make cane syrup... but *that'* okay ? ? ? whatever... lastly, does this mean that ONLY POSITIVE aspects of ANY cohort can be referred to, NEVER anything 'negative' ? that is bullshit and censorship...
i'll keep asking: what's in your brain ? ? ? ('cause this is leading to thoughtkrimes as sure as night follows day...)
well, its not like the 'deadskins' (as a washingtoon area native, *that* is what we REALLY called them, because -for a LOT of my life- they sucked hard) can't sell their crap, it is just that OTHERS can now sell all kinds of 'redskins' crap without paying royalties, or being subject to seizure, etc... who knows, with all the attention, people may perversely decide to buy MORE 'skins crap than ever BECAUSE of the 'ban'...
who says they aren't ? you ? so what does YOUR opinion mean ? are YOU the leader of the remaining indians ? no, you are not, so you don't get a say, do you ? but you ARE ASSERTING this word *is* a slur, and *that* word is not: NOT YOUR PLACE under this scenario... YOU are speaking for the indians (or whichever cohort is offended today), aren't you ? as i recall, there has been exactly ONE person posting here with indian heritage who averred that 'redskins' was NOT a slur among them; WHO ARE YOU TO SAY OTHERWISE ?
i don't KNOW what is/isn't a slur to indians in that regard, and DON'T REALLY CARE, because my NUMBER ONE PRIORITY is 'free speech', PERIOD... IF YOU DON'T INCLUDE THE 'RIGHT' OF PEOPLE TO BE OFFENSIVE IN THE EXERCISE OF THEIR FREE SPEECH, THEN YOU ARE NOT FOR FREE SPEECH... simply admit it: you are FOR CENSORSHIP because it is convenient for you to look like some cultural hero about this issue, rather than do the hard work of defending bedrock free speech rights which all other rights are dependent upon... i can tell you from my personal experience: MOST people don't give a shit about 'free speech', they want speech THEY LIKE, period... *that* is their debased 'definition' of free speech... they are know-nothing idiots and cowards...
why, YES it fucking is... WHO is it who 'decides' what words are 'bad' and 'disparaging', and which are acceptable ? ? ? you ? ? ? i don't think so... the courts ? *snort* that's a fucking joke...
point the two: there is no such thing as 'race', it is a man-made construct to 'otherize' others... that people THEN take up their 'race' (which doesn't exist) as some sort of badge of honor, is silly: we are all the same dog, dog...
third point: from what i have read -as another poster says more politely than i- 'redskins' is NOT held as a derogatory term by all indians; oh noes, what to do ? ? ? a vote ? the loudest most obnoxious about it 'wins' ? the one with the most indian 'blood' ? or the indians who WERE'NT paid off to allow the indian names usage ? (see: indians, seminoles, FS*ptui*U)
further, is it only indians who are allowed to determine what is/isn't 'offensive' to them ? ? ? does that go for me, too ?
lastly, so what ? ? ? i am 'offended' by the portrayal of nearly EVERYONE on teevee, doesn't that mean they have to stop so my delicate sensibilities are not sullied ? ? ? no, why not ? same 'reasoning'... (see: slope, slippery)
again: you have the right to NOT be assaulted, you do NOT have the right to NOT be insulted... that way lies madness...
yes, BUT... besides there being NO COMPETITION, but merely collusion (gosh, didn't that used to be kinda sorta 'illegal'?), you are nearly 'forced' into buying BOTH the teevee crap to get the inertnet crap... you don't bundle, they jack up the prices so much, you might as well bundle...
can't disagree with your last point, it DOES kind of make contacting them a fool's game: you don't have a couple thou to put in their chitinous claws when you go to talk to them at some ritzy fund-raising party, FORGET about it, you are beneath consideration, a mere citizen of no importance...
1. i have ZERO doubt that - as the author mentions- the present system is more to DISCOURAGE email contacts, and it does... a tactic far too many companies, etc take...
2. the idiotic 'forms' TOO MANY companies, etc give you to 'email' on their web site are usually crappy, as far as you get a -literally- postage-stamp-sized dialog box to input your 500 characters (or whatever they feel like limiting you to)...
3. for me, one of the major drawbacks, is you have NO RECORD (assuming you didn't go to the bother to cut/paste after you enter the text) of the correspondence... ESPECIALLY annoying when attempting to contact businesses with a question or complaint that may go back and forth...
4. from what i have been told repeatedly about contacting kongresskritters, email is at the bottom of their priority list: the order of most effective contact is, personal visit, phone call, fax, written letter, and email sucks hind titty... i doubt it goes beyond their staff droids who *MIGHT* tally them up 'for/against' a particular issue...
however, it IS an indicator of just how debased 'our' (sic) media has gotten when we DEPEND UPON satirical shows for 'real' news that the 'real' news won't cover in any significant fashion...
i understand whatever's frustration in some ways, in that there have been many times when jon stewart/colbert has an evil minion of doom on their show, and they get off lightly... (AS OPPOSED to the numerous times they DO NAIL THEM TO THE WALL in a manner the 'real' media will not do...)
i would LIKE THEM to reach over and smack the evil minions of doom, and while that might be satisfying to me, i doubt it would do their show much good... well, i bet the ratings would skyrocket, but their sponsors would squeal like stuck pigs, and THAT is the important factor...
again, the shame is NOT in the fact that stewart et al do a better job pointing out gross hypocrisy than the 'real' news; the shame is THEY SHOW UP the 'real' news, who most of us have essentially dismissed as having little-to-no relevancy in actually discussing/reporting on these issues...
...so, what is a 'registered design' ? ? ? hell, i've been on this site for years, and simply by osmosis have picked up a lot of the lingo and legalese, but i don't recall seeing what a 'registered design' is ... is that some britishism for a registered trademark, or something else entirely ? ? ?
