Me I can't stand 3d for home or theater.... from the few examples I've been forced to watch the effect to my eyes is more like the remembered Viewmaster of my youth than anything realistic looking or pleasant to look at.

Re: Re:
The saddest thing is that I don't doubt that the people of the US are inherently good. I just wish or government truly reflected it's people's positions.
I agree with you about the people, but I don't think the blame can be entirely laid at the feet of the government - I think as nations both the US and the UK (and others) suffer from the"Meetings effect"

Re:
A fair point, but it seems to me that there's already plenty of "half-baked opinion" at the "top" of the comments already... there's at least one troll who seems to have little life other than to get in first with something offensive, stupid or both on techdirt comments. *shrug* it's an experiment and I'm curious to see the outcome.
Personally I'd like the comments in threaded mode to be properly tiered and have button to be able to collapse a whole thread or sub-thread - I think that'd do more for avoiding the derailing.

Re: Re: Re: Re:
Much more corruption, much more theft, much more trampling of rights.
Assuming that's true, the problem you have is that while it might have been more (and recovered from) it was also more obvious... I'm not convinced that a large enough portion of the populace have noticed how far rights they woudl assume they have are actually eroded and that's kinda vital for any putative recovery.

Maybe I'm biased but...
hint: not possible, I was born in Canada and there are naked pictures of me at Burning Man)
....I'd consider both those traits as well as the huge "not a politician" one to make her waaaay more suitable to be president than any of the candidates in the running for the job. :-) (And no I'm not Canadian)

Re: Re:
Is it me or has all the ranting about how terrible it is and whether it's in accordance with amazon's Ts&Cs somewhat glossed over the fact that the whole limit of only being able to "lend" something you "bought" to a total of 1 person for a whole 2 weeks is a stupid idea in the first place? Most of my physical books have been read by anything between 2 and 12 people and a (legitimate) e-book is less functional? How dumb is that?

You can bet the farm that if they implemented their man-in-the-middle approach, using standard government bull-in-china-shop protocol, they would leave doors swinging wide open on their hinges.
First thing I thought on reading the article was "So, if they're holding all the encryption keys ready to hand over to the government on demand, then what happens when that store (inevitably) get hacked?"

Re: Guessing they setup a sting
So... this seller very likely *could* be selling counterfeits and nobody has noticed until now.
But... but...! Counterfeits are always appalling quality with, like wavy lines and bad sound and .. um.. people wandering in front of the camera and stuff. It MUST be true - I've seen the adverts! What you're describing is clearly impossible.

Re: Olympic spirit my arse
The much heralded Olympic spirit has been well and truly slaughtered with these games. The whole thing has gone from catastrophe to catastrophe and has just become a massive corporate event that is all about money. Avoid all coverage in protest.
Hardly.... it was long dead. The only major difference between this and recent games is that the UK press is open enough and world-wide enough for the bullsh*t the IOC insist on to be more noticeable.
