I've used ABP/Ghostery
Ad block plus and Ghostery phones home with sites it has blocked.
NoScript updates so often its a pop up ad on its own.
I hav'nt noticed any side effects from using just EFF's Privacy Badger on Firefox.
I'm OK with seeing ads. I'm not OK with tracking.

Comcast started charging me for my "own modem". They must have forgotten to charge me for the first 8 years it was attached.
