Nook = Android tablet right now.
B&N + Microsoft = Nook + Win8 in the future.
Same tablet, different OS, same price = Win8 Nook at half the price of high end Android tablets and iPads. Microsoft also gains retail space to sell hardware and an ecosystem to start selling content.
I've got an HBO subscription and I've also downloaded the episodes after they air. Is that wrong? We don't have HBO Go way up here in backwoods Canada, I can view episodes online through the Bell (satellite provider) website but I can't get that stream on my TV, only a PC.
Is it still a lost sale when I am a paying HBO customer?
I think a better metric would be total internet users. You aren't going to convince people to buy a subscrption for each of their devices. It'll be one account for all of their devices.
Canadian content rules apply to broadcast mediums, there aren't any restrictions online. Those restrictions are entirely the producer/distributor. That being said the Canadian content rules are still horrible.
While the PC's are making some pretty horrible moves that I don't agree with, and I'm from Alberta, they aren't quite as bad as you easterners make out.
Who would replace them? The Liberals? The NDP? Come on, get a clue. Illegitimate? Pretty sure they were voted into power in an election, this isn't Russia and Harper isn't Putin.

This stance always confuses me...
Let me make sure I've got your argument right. You are upset that "pirates" and "big tech crooks" are somehow making millions of dollars by giving away your work for free? That's the gist of it?
Now if "pirates" and "big tech crooks" can make these millions off of file sharing what is stopping the majors (as you call them) from doing the same? If 3 kids in Sweden can rob you blind like that with a sever and a simple tracker you are doing it wrong.
or possess it. You can be charged for being impaired driving while high, you can be charged for intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance (over a 1/2oz) but it is not illegal to be high (as long as you aren't driving).
Weird.
Back to the story, it isn't like people are going to stop circumventing the DRM on content. This will effect researchers and such more than the common person. Stupid provision all around.
This. Just go away and die Hollywood. I've had 2 free movie tickets sitting on the fridge since Christmas that I still haven't used. The movies coming out aren't even worth watching for free. I could careless if they stopped making them.
I don't know if that is entirely true. Gamers seem to care about 3D, there is a fairly steady uptake in 3D monitors and TV's in the gaming space.
I feel the problem with 3D is simply the quality of the releases. I've got a 3D TV (didn't go looking for one, just happened to upgrade the TV and they come with 3D now) and the problem is the lack of content. Hell you still can't buy Avatar in 3D. Talk about windowing, how does making the most popular 3D movie of all time unavailable for purchase make any sense?
The Pirate Bay has copies available in 3D. Just saying.
