What a surprise, people favour convenience. Downloading should be a good thing for music/film producers. Cut out the middle man, deliver content directly to fans, expose new fans to content. This is business 101. If these MPAA/RIAA fools were have the business people they think they are, they'd have Apple's market cap.
For the trolls: Apple was almost bankrupt, they started selling music on the internet, and devices to play the music on. Anyone in the music/film business could have done the same thing by cutting a deal with a firm like Creative Labs who were producing portable MP3 players long before Apple.

This is a laughably ridiculous battle. EA has a bit of negative reputation because of their behaviour earlier this century, but Zynga on the other hand does not even have a quality title to its name. Meanwhile, EA owns the rights to a nearly limitless collection of games, many of which have actually been of quality.
There have been a number of instances of Zeppelin infringing on other's copyrights. Notably dazed and confused, and whole lotta love. There's plenty to find googling. Never stopped me from liking the band.
Nothing like former rock gods telling the public what laws to follow. Most of the musicians on this list have been guilty of breaking many laws, and social norms on the list. I'm talking about suspicion of paedophilia, and child pornography.
Maybe the people on this list should focus on creating relevant music again.
I will no longer be reading the Globe, and I'm not that broken up about it. One less news source that's generally a few hours behind the rest of the Internet anyway. Unlike the NY Times, I doubt the Globe can even afford a $50,000,000.00 pay wall that sort of works.
I would have mentioned many more things about Ford, but I didn't want to get too off topic. I wasn't perfectly sure about the value of the fines for cancelling Metrolinx, I actually thought it was upwards of $65 million. Making his first day in office cost us a whopping $130 million.
These are just the 'hard' values though. There is a massive derived cost to his actions. By making it easier for individuals to afford cars, and making it harder for individuals to take transit, the man is costing us a fortune in time and money caused by traffic.
Rob Ford has actually had me banned from his facebook page for pointing these things out. Worse than that Ford actually has someone prune his Facebook page so it only shows positive comments. All this from a man who claims to want to listen to "the hard working voters".
I'm far from the only one banned/pruned from his Facebook page. I have a friend, who's a respected Ph.D. who wasn't just blocked from FB, but had his posts pruned, so they had no context. His only crime was convincing a Ford supporter that Ford was wrong.
The worst part is, he claims to want small government, yet presumably someone from the city is censoring his Facebook page.
Judging by many of the comments here, it's obvious that many of the readers do not understand just how much of a buffoon Toronto's mayor Rob Ford is.
Yes the idea of a graffiti reporting app does have some technical merit, and yes it could bring the City of Toronto some funding. However the numbers we're talking about are not significant.
We're talking about a mayor, who on his first day of office threw away $65,000,000.00 of annual funding, in order to "stop the war on the car". This is in a city that allegedly has the worst commute times in North America! Even if every Torontonian bought this iPhone app, we're barely talking about a fraction of the funds Ford has thrown away!
There are other questions of course. How much did it cost the city to develop this application? How much money is the city spending employing by-law officers to police businesses that have graffiti on their buildings? (yes I've seen a business I consult for ticketed first hand!) If the city really cares about cutting costs, and being digitally responsible, why aren't they running GNU/Linux instead of a product produced by a foreign firm?
Sadly for those of us unfortunate enough to live in Toronto, we have to live with Ford for a minimum of two more years. Worse, we have to live with a population that widely elected this racist homophobe into office.
If you think I'm exaggerating about the racist/homophobe line, I can produce City Council minutes, and other quotes to backup my statements.
As Jeremy2020 pointed out, the solution has been offered many times. Furthermore the technology required to implement these solutions exists in many forms.
People obviously want to access content. Perhaps (as has also been mentioned MANY times) Hollywood could actually provide people with access to this content.
I think they're just jealous because Google's revenues rival all of hollywood's revenues. There's also a twisted expectation that everyone else should subsidize hollywood. The very fact that blank media is taxed to subsidize the mafiaa is beyond revolting.
My biggest question about SOPA was who is going to pay for this? The entire process oozes socialism.
I guess the 2008 financial crisis made America okay with socialism, since the bail outs are/were, as Lawrence Lessig put it "the stupidest form of socialism"
