Advertising Is Everywhere... Even Armpits?

from the product-placement dept

If you were among those who thought advertising in urinals was reaching a new low, you probably won't be please to learn of the new ad campaign from deodorant maker Right Guard. The Raw Feed points us to the news that it's kicking off a promotional campaign/publicity stunt, where it appears to be outfitting folks with clothing that has video screens sewn into their armpits, which will be running a constant stream of ads for Right Guard. It's certainly a different way of getting attention.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I'm not sure they'll be very successful...

Unless they're advertising in branded communities, of course.

    Good Idea

This is actually a pretty good idea.
Not only will it turn heads and get people to wonder whats on the TV screen, it also makes it into the blogosphere. I wouldn't be surprised if some news programs bring it up too when they have no real news to provide (which happens frequently).
Obviously seeing the armpit ad won't make you run to the closest shop and buy one, but you will probably remember the brand next time you're shopping for deodorant.

    Re: Good Idea

Damn right I'll remember it. I'll remember what a ludicrous idea it was and keep on buying supermarket own brand deodorant that does the same job for half the price.

    How long before...

Someone hacks the video feed to produce... PORN SHIRT! Or starts playing copyrighted material on their screens. Oh, my! It could be the next fad in fashion.

    Location, Location, Location!

What next, a crotch mounted video screen?

Will the advertisers rates vary with what
area of the clothing the screen is attached
    to?

Where's Dorpus on this, it sounds very
    Japanese to me.

There must be alot better places than one's armpit to put a videoscreen... why not put in right between the tits? That'll turn alot of heads!

She: "Are you staring at my tits?"

He: "Naw, just watching this commercial...)
