DailyDirt: Exporting Weird Meats

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

Some people don't eat meat at all for a variety of reasons, and some omnivores are just picky about the types of meat they eat. There are a lot of other animals besides cows and pigs. Here are just a few less commonly consumed meats that seem more suitable for exporting. By the way, StumbleUpon can also recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Artificial meat

I can't wait 'till we start using that artificial, lab-grown meat we've been hearing about. Wonder what a panda, or tiger would taste like? Or maybe even... a human?

      Re: bronies

Brony here, and your comment made me wonder:

Perusing the source article, they only mention horses, but would these rules really apply to equines in general? I have had tasty donkey sausage (har har), but it was not for sale. I am told that it is a traditional Spanish dish.

The AP article is inaccessible, so I am at something of a loss.

"And US researchers somewhere are working on genetically modified chickens to grow more than two feet..."

More than two feet long, that's one large chicken!

"Puerto Rico is planning to get rid of its overpopulation of iguanas by exporting the meat of this lizard."

Illinois should start doing the same thing with its Carp.

"Horse flesh isn't expected to become a widely popular entree in the US, but some 200,000 horses per year could be processed and exported."

    How about dogs? Cats?

Instead of shipping them up here to Canada for us to house and feed.
