Bloomberg News Kills All Credibility: Kills Story Critical Of China, Fires Reporter Who Reveals This Fact

from the who-would-trust-them-again? dept

Yet another major news organization has decided that it no longer needs credibility. Bloomberg News got some attention last week after it came out that the editor-in-chief had told reporters to kill a series of stories "that might anger China" and then defended that decision by arguing it was similar to appeasing the Nazis. I'm not joking.
In the call late last month, Mr. Winkler defended his decision, comparing it to the self-censorship by foreign news bureaus trying to preserve their ability to report inside Nazi-era Germany, according to Bloomberg employees familiar with the discussion.
Apparently, the main story that was killed was by reporter Michael Forsythe, who had been working on it for nearly a year. And, oh yeah, it was scheduled to run the very same month that Bloomberg's CEO was "visiting China to strengthen business ties between the media-sensitive country and the financial services company." I'm sure that's a coincidence.

And... once the NY Times broke the story, Bloomberg fired Forsythe. Perhaps the firing isn't too surprising: revealing to a competing publication embarrassing information about your own publisher self-censoring to appease China (and justifying it by positively calling up images of appeasing Hitler) probably means you're going to lose your job. But, of course, the way to have built back at least some credibility after the news was revealed would have been to admit the mistake and let Forsythe publish the story. As it stands now, any reporting from Bloomberg should be automatically seen as suspect, as the editor-in-chief has admitted that he will appease local governments to keep them happy, and the reporting is expected to reflect that sort of propaganda-happy posture.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. Disgusting? Yes. Surprising? Not really

After all, how often lately do you see the US MSM publish stories that are critical of the US government, it only follows that they'd do the same favor for foreign governments, and for the same reasons as well(money, 'exclusives' and so on).

This is not to say it's not disgusting each and every time it happens mind, the idea of firing a journalist for doing their job, reporting on what's actually happening rather than just regurgitating what they're told and avoiding anything that might anger/embarrass those in power defeats the whole purpose of journalism, and turns the 'news' agencies into nothing more than PR organizations.

What is surprising is the Godwin-ing to defend the decision, as usually comparing someone's actions to the nazi's and those that supported them is considered anything but complementary, and I can't help but think they really should have picked a different example if they were trying to avoid angering China, as I don't imagine the Chinese officials are all that pleased to have their country and leadership compared to nazi-era Germany.

… how often lately do you see the US MSM publish stories that are critical of the US government…

      Five minutes ago.

Just now taking a quick scan through Google News US Edition, it was easy to find this more-or-less random CNN story, headlined “Congressional source: Benghazi contractors seem to contradict CIA chief” (by Drew Griffin and Kathleen Johnston). The headline alone suggests conflict. Diving deeper into this story:
. . . This week, the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Oversight met to hear closed-door testimony from the former security agents.

Though the testimony is secret, the congressional source with inside knowledge of the hearing told CNN, "There now appears to be serious discrepancies" between what the CIA has officially reported to Congress and what the witnesses are telling members of the committee. . . .

That's fairly critical of the government: The story is accusing the CIA chief of lying to Congress.

Ooops, sorry, can't use the characterization “lying”, just “serious discrepancies”. Anyhow, still critical.

Going back to the big picture, there's no doubt that the press in America is under assault by the Obama administration. But don't try to spin things as worse than they really are. The American press still has quite a bit of freedom to criticize the goverment at levels. And the American press exercises that liberty every day.

Fair enough, suppose I'm just annoyed at how often what should be bigger gets ignored due to 'lack of time/space', while inconsequential, useless crap get front page treatment('Snowden? NSA? TPP? Bah, who has time for that when you could be reading about the latest fashions of the stars!').

Yes, they have the freedom to do it, so far, but they show a major unwillingness to do so. Anymore, the lamestream media are more of a PR branch for their favorite political party rather than assuming their role as the 5th estate.

Let me get this straight. Your story is that the PR branch of the Republican party is “unwilling” to criticize Mr Obama?

    Propganda

No surprise here, when checking news about America, as an ex-patriot abroad, we always check multiple sources including the likes of Aljazeera and RT for some of the real truth.

It is a known fact around the world that Americans do not understand what is happening in their own country and are unaware of some of the biggest stories about corruption in the US.

This is just one small story amongst many many more that people outside of America are aware of and where only Americans online that search for the truth are aware of.

My Wife had a heated discussion with family members over Facebook last week, where they said she does not know what is going on when facts contradicted their views in America.

The discussion became very heated when she pointed out some real facts that they refused to accept as fact even when pointed to the articles with more than enough evidence to prove it was true.

Propaganda tactics in America have been honed and the majority really do believe them even if the evidence proves otherwise.

It is no wonder that research has shown that foreigners know more about the truth in America than the people living there.

    Rock and hard place ...

Journalism is much easier to do with access, and criticizing the powerful people you are reporting on makes access much more difficult. I can sympathize with large news organizations having to pander a bit to those in charge. This is the dilemma reporters have:

If you have integrity but no access, nobody listens to you. If you have access but no integrity, nobody trust you.

      Re: Propaganda

From your arguments, the following conclusions can be drawn:

Clearly access is worthless to the reporters and they should instead focus on attracting sources.

Pursuant to the above, those that have achieved access should not value it and rather cut and run the moment they have a juicy story.

Bllomberg and its benefactor, the Chinese Triad

Just one more bit of evidence that the Zionists, the globalists, the City of London and its golem, Israel are working hand-in-glove with the Chinese against the United States.

    Some thoughts for your consideration:

Since the 9/11 (inside job/Muslim boogie-man) America's (Israel/city of London) foreign policy (AFRICOM) has been about disrupting and supplanting Chinese advances in trade through out Africa and the world.

However, at the same time, the banking cartel (The Fed/City of London) sells billions of Treasury bills to China resulting in a huge unsustainable budget deficit, a result of the US military fighting to hold off Chinese advances.

Meanwhile, US-based and other global transnational corporations are out-sourcing US jobs and manufacturing to China that, along with the banking/LIBOR fraud, and corporate bail-outs, have resulted in a US economic depression and cuts to the social safety net, destroying the American middle-class. The massive holding of US Treasury's give China de facto control over US monetary policy, inflation, jobs, foreign debt, and even the US standard of living.

Further, the US military is being slowly reduced, if not destroyed, in the central Asian "graveyard of empires", and US veterans are being treated like garbage. while replacement parts used in the US military machines are being counterfeited in China. To make matters worse, in the wake of the contrived economic debacle, America is selling off its infrastructure, properties to China?

Meanwhile, Japan, at the behest of the US, even though it is being devastated by Fukushima, is contesting China and North Korea, and could lead to a nuclear confrontation.

So, after over 12 years of the eternal war-on-terror™, the 9/11 pretext to invade Afghanistan, to steal its resources and re-energize the drug trade, China is now being allowed to extract oil in Afghanistan and Iraq; and is poised to take away the supposed prize of central Asia?

Finally, because of the deliberate financial policies of the Federal Reserve, increasing the money supply to the point where it creates hyperinflation, the War on Terror® subsidized by China buying Treasury bills, the dollar is being destroyed and the Yuan is becoming the de facto reserve currency of the world.

Can someone tell me that this does not add up to a plan to destroy America? Destroy its economy and democratic institutions, and subordinate our country to a globalist totalitarian NWO? That the so-called "war on terror", really the war against the growing global presence of China was never meant to be won, as was designed as a holding action to weaken America, destroy its democratic institutions, its economy, its people, to get it ready to subordinate it to a NWO run by the banking/drug cartel run by the City of London and its "gollum", Israel?

    Swizz Banks.

    Sods ----- Law.
    March.---- 2014.

For almost two decades we have strived to get justice for the injustice we have suffered at the hands of a world renowned bank--- PICTET & CIE. BANK.

Two yorkshiremen both running their own small family businesses trying to resolve the problem by taking all the correct legal procedures to recover their monies.

The matter was raised in Parliament – twice-- the FSA investigated the matter concluding that PICTET had rogues operating in their London Bank --- but the rogues had left ---saying no one left to prosecute.??? ----- so there.

We then approached the Financial Ombudsman Service. (FOS) --- our case was dealt with by seven different people ---- then our numerous E-Mails were ignored --- nobody would speak to us -------so there.

We then asked the SFO ( Serious Fraud Office.) to investigate our case ---- the criteria of our case ticked all their boxes. --- we were instructed not to send them any documents/evidence.------ in fact they wrote to us advising us to go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau.(CAB.)

Richard Alderman the SFO boss ---- who responded to our letter was the same man who would not investigate the “ Madoff” scandal or the “Libor” fiasco.
The MP's committee ---- said he was sloppy--- and the SFO was run like “ Fred Karno's Circus” ----- it was an office of fraud.----- so there.

Our M.P. approached our local Chief Constable to investigate----- he was called---- Sir Norman Bettison--- Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police ---- a force that made “ Dad's Army” look like the S.A.S. They were inept – corrupt ---malicious --- from top to bottom. We were criminally dealt with by the Forces Solicitor---- the Head of the Economic Crime Unit ----and the Chief Constable ----- so there.

We were then advised to pass our complaint against West Yorkshire Police to the I.P.C.C. – which we did --- they advised us to make our complaint to ---- the West Yorkshire Police --- we did with reluctance --- all we got was abuse and obfuscation. ----- so there.

Sir Norman Bettison ---- The Forces solicitor--- and the Head of the Economic Crime ---- have all been removed from their posts and facing criminal allegations.
    ------ so there.

We even sought justice through the Courts --- culminating in a visit to the Court of Appeal-London.--- On leaving the Courts of Appeal that day our barrister a “rising star” informed us --- that if that was Justice then you can keep it. He quit the law and moved to Canada ----- so there.

A few years later we learned that one of the judges in our case at the Court of Appeal was related to a senior executive of the Pictet Bank -----so there.

Pictet & Cie .Bank --- voted private bank of the year 2013.
Ivan Pictet ---- Voted banker of the year 2012. ---- the senior partner --- lied on numerous occasions and had documents destroyed --- also said genuine documents were forgeries. ----- so there.

Ivan Pictet in Oct. 2013 ---- Given the Legion of Honour --- but saying that ---- honours were given to Hitler --- Eichmann --- Mussolini ---Franco --- he's in fitting company. ----so there.

MONTY RAPHAEL.Q.C. -- Peters & Peters.London. They were the banks lawyers.
Monty Raphael.Q.C. along with Ivan Pictet withheld crucial documents requested by the High Court ---- the FSA ---- and the police Fraud Squad. ----so there.

Monty Raphael.Q.C. became an Honorary Queens Counsellor in March. 2012.
Monty Raphael.Q.C. became a Master of the Bench in Nov.2012.
An expert in Fraud ---the Doyen of Fraud Lawyers. ----- so there.

This says a lot about Banks --- the consensus of opinion is that they are highly paid “crooks” ---- no wonder they voted Ivan Pictet banker of the year.

It appears that crimes in the “establishment.” are honoured by their peers.
    “HONOURS AMONG THIEVES.”

The bank is now seeking to re-structure -- to cut the partners liability – hoping to off load their decades of criminal responsibilty – and move onwards to carry out new crimes. The Germans are right -- the bankers should go to prison if found guilty of financial crimes..

Both Ivan Pictet and Monty Raphael.Q.C. conspired to withhold crucial documents requested by the High Court – the FSA --- and the Police Fraud Squad.

Written Parliamentary Questions received by the table office ..

The consensus of opinion is the Pictet & Cie should be prosecuted , and that their U.K. banking licence should be taken away.

Their Solicitors at Peters & Peters .London “ struck off and prosecuted..”

Are you going to be in the 50% --- that loose your money.-- Get it out NOW.

2012 -- - June. -- Published in Anglo INFO .Geneva.--- USA Trust Fund Investors were sent false and fraudulent documents by Pictet Bank.Switzerland. in order to collect large fees. All the fines that crooked Swiss banks have incurred in the last few years exceeds £75.Billion.
