Coming Up On The Techdirt Podcast: Amanda Palmer

from the teaser-trailer dept

Happy Thanksgiving folks! As you've probably noticed by now, Techdirt is taking the long weekend off, so you won't be seeing any regular posts today and tomorrow. But if you're craving Techdirt before your turkey, why not take this opportunity to check out the brand new Techdirt Podcast if you haven't already?

So far, we've released two episodes. The first is a discussion about approaches to increasing privacy (and the seemingly paradoxical solution of doing so by increasing surveillance). Episode two features an interview with Brad Burnham of Union Square Ventures on even more privacy topics, especially regarding user control of data. You can get both episodes on SoundCloud, subscribe via iTunes, or point your podcast player to the RSS feed.

Next week we'll be releasing episode three, in which we take a break from privacy topics for an interview with Amanda Palmer about her new book The Art Of Asking, including a live excerpt from the book. There's a lot of great discussion that should be of interest to artists, fans and anyone else who wants some inside insight from someone who has been smartly and successfully navigating the creative industries for years. For now you can get a taste with this teaser clip, in which Amanda discusses the difference between her experiences with her record label and with her book publisher:

Stay tuned for the full episode next week — or subscribe to make sure you get it automatically as soon as it's released. Until then, enjoy the long weekend, and we'll be back to our regular posting schedule on Monday.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Could you please number the podcasts (the files and in the RSS feeds)? It would be be easier to keep tabs on them. Otherwise, thanks, I love podcasts.

May you should play with your setting because I Ghostery and there no issues, but I allow some analytics (e.g. Google Analytics, and ChartBeat). You can a also go into private browsing and temporally disable Ghostery, that what I do on some tracking sites.

    Podcast in MP3?-)

Techndirt reviewed quite a lot of software patents problems, and yet you use patent encumbered format with Soundcloud. You can use OGG/Vorbis there just fine. Opus isn't supported yet though.

Hmm, I'll look into using OGG -- but it's not just about SoundCloud support, it needs to work with podcast reader apps, since the RSS feed also comes from SoundCloud.

Amanda Palmer is an illiterate, bipolar psycho who is flogging her mind puke as a self help book. Fail.

    Re:

Yeah, I do find that Palmer's name does trigger some people into typing overblown character attacks on her. It would have been a shame to click here and not find another tantrum.

Do you have any citations or reasoning for your whining, or is this just another sign that the people who disagree with alternate business models are a couple of rungs below poo-flinging monkeys on the maturity scale?

Re: Re: Ghostery blocked SoundCloud video player.

...a-n-d, the reason to do so would be _______ ?

i, too, have ghostery (& adblk+, and LOVE websurfing infinitely more because of it), and it says it is blocking soundcloud, too... much like disqus which is blocked, i usually just hit the little ghosty icon to allow it to operate... exception to the rule...
