It happens with our over the air digital tv box thingy, took me some time to finally figure out what caused that noise. The phone doesn't have to be that close either, I'm pretty sure I got the same kind of interference without a working phone in the room.
That is infact a very common problem these days, the fact that people don't understand what the actual effects are of certain legislation, even amongst politicians. ACTA was set to go through the European Parliament smoothly, but after the protests you see a major change to the other direction. Some politicians have even admitted that they didn't have a clue about the possible negative effects of ACTA, before the protests made them look deeper into available information.
Dead writers don't need jobs and don't get stuck in traffic, so what the hell do they need copyright for? You're missing the point entirely.
What the article was about is that copyright was meant to benefit 'the people' as in the general population of the country in some way. And copyright & patents CAN benefit the general populace, by providing inventors and artists with incentives to keep doing what they're doing. Copyright isn't there to benefit creators, it exists to benefit the public. But right somehow it has become all about benefiting IP trolls. And even you should get this, if the inventor/artist is already dead he doesn't need to be stimulated to create more, since he's DEAD. Which means current copyright terms make NO sense at all, even with your example.
Actually even then it's still perfectly understandable they want laws like that. I have to download the stuff I like to "test" it, simply because the radio stations are only playing the crap the legacy players swamp the market with. If I hadn't started listening on a couple of illegal music sites I wouldn't even know all these bands I now faithfully buy the albums of.
Did you even read what was under those banners? And do you seriously think running a free company costs no money? Not agreeing with Mike, fine, but attacking Wikipedia for switching services is unneccesary and stupid. If you're so insulted by their banners, go buy Encarta or Encyclopaedia Brittannica instead and STFU. I think wikipedia has a right to ask for donations from non-contributing freetards and the freetards have a right to not donate, not a right to nag about something they get for free.
Actually I think they should totally continue this sort of thing, since it *obviously* doesn't harm pirates, but does wake up the not-so-tech-savvy general population, cause lots of THEM are going to end up being cut off. Now we just have to wait for the backlash.
I only uploaded legal content so far. I use Mediafire to get files which are too large to send by email where they have to go. And yes, there are files which are that large which are non infringing, like the poster I made for my research project.
Tuition prices where exactly? Here in the Netherlands the tuition fees have always been pretty decent and yet my university & the associated University library are stuck paying huge amounts to get access to LARGELY GOVERNMENT FUNDED research articles. Academic publishers get lots of their content for free and then make the producers of that free content pay for the content others produced for free. The amount of tuition fees have little to nothing to do with the troubles in the academic world. Congrats on having your head stuck up your ass.
Just because the american system is fucked up doesn't make it right to rip off all universities worldwide.

Period. And his books just moved to the top of my "to read" list and judging by the Stardust movie I'll probably end up buying them :P
