It's not supposed to be Mike's job to come up with their business model. That is what their executives are supposed to do. All Mike is doing is pointing out that that is not what their executives are doing and they are trying to keep using their old business models even when technology has made them ineffective.
I really wanted to explain to you how sending vacation pictures is destroying the music industry. Unfortunately I'm not delusional enough to come up with a reason. Just wait for Dark Helmet, I'm sure he'll have a reason.
Mike be careful about hoping Congress will do something about this. Knowing Congress we are likely to end up with something worse than the DMCA if they get involved again.
That is actually an awesome idea and I love the fact that he demonstrates playing some music with it in the video. I may buy his cd just to mess around with the case.
2.16 is about 220% of the actual damages. If you support awards beyond actual damages as a deterrent I find that to be a pretty reasonable award. Over twice the actual damages is a fair punishment.
The clause of the constitution states that congress can grant a limited time monopoly to the creator to "promote the progress of science and the useful arts". If the current version of copyright is not encouraging creativity then it is unconstitutional.
"But the copyright should exist independent of any person"
But what happens if a writer dies and doesn't assign his copyright to anyone? Does that mean the work keeps copyright but no one has the ability to license out that content? How does that "promote the progress of science and useful arts"?
The fact that in French they call it an "information pirate" shows why it is such a problem. The advancement of humans is started by the sharing of information and when information can be locked up such that someone has to "pirate" it, something is seriously wrong.
I never said it wasn't funny. I find it hilarious in a slightly disturbing way. I was just stating it is an indication of the seriously screwed up way that Dark Helmet's brain works.
