The people who are against this bill do a disservice to their arguments by labeling it socialism, this is nowhere near socialism and seems to be more just adding regulation to try and fix a broken system.
I live in Czech Republic where there is a mix of Social systems with private enterprise, and although it has it's faults I actually think it's better than the NHS style system of government run Healthcare - whereas either system is better than the US system.
I think the "yet" was reffering to other companies that have issued take down notices for commercials people had posted in the past. I recall a few times it being mentioned and no one understanding why on TechDirt.
I normally read several (right now I have 3 going and may start another) books at once, and finish probably 3-4 a month. When I go on vacation it always frustrates me not to have the variety I normally have. For this I would love to have an ebook reader - the unlikely chance that the battery would permanently die etc while on vacation would be a risk worth taking.
But since I use the library extensively and sale alot of the books I do buy - the cost is prohibitive. If you factor in that more than half the books I read come from my library membership, the sale of bought books etc, then I doubt I spend more than a couple of dollars per book read. I can't believe people are willing to pay the $250 or so for the device and then not even get a steep discount on buying the books.
I would find additional details interesting as well - although I suspect in most cases the details will be in the comments of the particular story involved.
So maybe just a list with links to the original posts?
yeah, but ummm I don't stop at Starbucks (or any other over priced coffee shop) more than a couple of times a year - in large part because to me they are way overpriced.
The problem with that attitude is that one day they may decide to start inspecting each and every laptop. If you haven't protested when they made the policy saying they could do - how will you be able to protest when they do start doing it.
Today they may only be looking for the stuff we all find horrendous (child porn) but tomorrow they may arrest you for not having proof that you own the CD's related to the mp3's you are playing.
I believe the statement above to be incorrect - I don't believe they can ever refuse you entry. Arrest you on the spot yes, but as a citizen they cannot refuse you entry.
If they can I'd like to see some documentation of this.
I think it's fair to have issue with Streetview and not be a google hater (I would fall into this camp). In the past google has not been very accommodating towards people with legitimate privacy concerns - I remember many complaints about google going into driveways and onto private roads.
I'm not against streetview per se, however I do have concerns about googles regard for privacy. Yes they may take down pictures people request quite quickly, but some of the burden should lie with google not to take those pictures in the first place.
