Like Ewan Morrison is not like that in his younger days, no?
Fanfiction and it's derivatives is a way how we, the Fan, enjoy, understand and appreciate the original works.
Enjoy-because there's so many random element in our life, you'll be surprised to see what will the character will do or react if a situation, different from the canon/original work, was introduced to the story. Or seeing a badass poses that the official artworks that was never made. Or even a Hell lot better version of a music made from remix. And some might even invoke rule 34 somewhere, just to appease certain people...
Understand-It gives nearly anyone who don't know the series some what an outline of what just happened in the original works, especially if the fanfic follows the station of the canon/the original plotline. Even with certain discrepancies like Original Characters joining the cast, crossovers and/or different choices/actions was made was thrown into the mix but the true essence of the story is remained untouched.
Appreciate-If we, the Fans, like something, it's gonna be spread first to everyone we know who'll like the story. Without us Fans, Your story will rot in whatever storage you place them. No matter how good is that original works if there's no one appreciate it, other than the creators/publisher, then the expecting fame and fortune will be nothing more than just a dream that you can't reach.
Uh oh. If this like anything Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny(the later is an epic failure in plot) in regard to human reaction to genetically modified/enhanced babies.
Just don't turn this into a Racial war.
We don't really need THAT kind of junk around.
Humans are still Humans, no matter how they are born as long as they still have their humanity and their human heart.
Granted, this will be a boon for those geneticist and other doctors who wish to see if they can modify a human being before it was conceive.
But the question is WILL those DOCTORS will be still humane enough to treat the "Coordinator"(yes. I'm Using GS/GSD term) like a normal human being? Or pull a Hojo(A VERY immoral scientist from Final Fantasy VII, who treats nearly every test subjects as expendable Object/Guinea pigs, even to his wife(Lucrecia) and son(Sephiroth).) and treat them just like an object or Guinea pig that can be killed/thrown away when their usefulness is over.
What? Sometimes, those anime and/or games got some lesson you can appreciate and can be applied to real life, as long you understand their story and the characters' background.
Not to mention millions, if not billions, of petitions to have their genes patented from each and every family who wish to patent their genes all over the world.
This little story is a perfect example that you can't stop determine person or people from getting what they want.
Hell! They even go for legal means just to get the password, if they can't get it thru illegal ones or vice-versa.
It's always human factor is the greatest factor in every system. Even you say a system is automated, there's always a part that the system itself can't fix by itself alone....

And Who in the world contain those data in a DVD? It's better to extract those from the net to it's intended destination.
Wait a moment... You guys Hate cloud-networking since it's a good source for those piracy thingies... so you go old school on high capacity PHYSICAL storage medium.
Now, you end up loosing such valuable data that anyone who got them will have a field day hacking those accounts to hell...
