"What I said came out nothing like I meant," explained Urban. "I was referring to the old days when you'd buy a record, do a cassette tape and give it to your girlfriend, and then maybe she likes it and becomes a fan."
Yes, I agree Laurel, That is different from downloading a song.... how?
In all honesty, I think I had more 'un-purchased' songs on Cassette than I do MP3.
But then I was much younger and didn't really have as much disposable income, now I prefer to get a CD, rip and put the CD on the shelf. Stays in good shape a very long time that way.
And...
You'll be signing online with your thumbprint by then and held accountable to every single thing you do if my influence counts for anything. These are the "good old days", just watch.
No - you'll be biometrically authenticated with the chip in your arm - at least some will. Chips and I don't mix that way...
But - if somehow 'free downloading' made these people cash - they'd be ALL for it. It's not what's going on, it the fact that their little pyramid marketing scheme is being disrupted. But soon - someone will figure out a way to seriously cash in on this.

FYI, the video streams of ABC.com are closed for non-US citizens. Of course there are ways around it, but that's just as illegal as downloading it off of a torrent server and can cause a lot of headaches that you don't want
What's illegal about a proxy?
Although - I could see some of those proxies out there giving you a virus..
But mostly - why the heck do they block it if you are outside the U.S.???
Dunno, guess so - I shut down cable completely. Been a few months and counting and I don't regret it one little bit. I was just done paying $90.00 a month to watch TV that was 50% advertisements anyway. That's silly.
NetFlix and buying movies is good enough. And no, I don't torrent them. I prefer a collection of originals.
But then.. I just downloaded a linux distro via Torrent - so there is in fact, plenty of legit data there too.
Doesn't even matter - Napster was 'done away with' and we ended up with Gnutella and Limewire, those too were mostly 'done away with' and now we have torrent.
So in fact - copyright pressure does in fact seem to further technology.
Peer file sharing technology, perhaps at least.
So go ahead - take down Torrent, maybe it's time for something newer and more secure anyway.
No, I won't need to be online to 'play' - I just won't play Ubisoft games.
Then I can play without having to worry about that.
Pretty simple.
I don't really play a game unless I'm demo-ing it without paying, I understand the fairness in paying for what I use. I don't mind an activiation, but having to be online all the time? Naaa, last time my internet went out for a while, I was stuck not being able to play Halflife2, via Steam.
After the fact I found I could run Steam in offline mode - but when I went and got 'Vanguard' - I had the option of getting it on Steam or just getting a copy off of Amazon - guess which one I went with.... Not steam.
Online games are entirely different of course, and mostly that's what I play, but if the 'net is down - then I might play something single player.
Having to be online to play a 'single player' game isn't an option I'll pay for with the number of games out there.
Out of curiosity, what country would you use as an example? No one is perfect or Utopian -- that doesn't mean the successes can't be pointed out.
heh, good point.
The thing is - while technology moves forward our 'society' moves backwards. I think the concept of 'enlightened' in reference to modern day society is either a denial tactic or a whishy-washy academic viewpoint that again; is so mired in denial it can't see it's hand in front of it's face.
Our rights dwindle, most can see that. Any 'enlightened' society would realize it's moving towards tyranny.
So.. I don't think there are really any examples of the above right now. Perhaps the U.S. was for many years, but current politicians now think they themselves are 'enlightened' and the rest of us are just 'proles'.
So what about in 6 years when the company hosting the auth server goes under? or they decide that they want to move to "MusicDNA2" and that all of the musicDNA files must be redownloaded in a 1 week window one at a time. Will i be able to load them on my phone/iPod/PMP/car/HTPC/etc? If it is just an MP3 file with some special info in the metadata section for their player to use/update, i'm in, but thats not what it sounds like it will be.
I'll still be listening to my normal MP3's.. heh
I still prefer to buy the real CD and rip - I don't trust the digital files provided by the recording companies - heck, barely trust the CD's after Sony's rootkit fiasco.
Luckily, the city I'm in doesn't play stupid games with sign and camera placement to get more tickets. They'd have a hard time getting me anyway, as I'm a laid back driver, usually right on the speed limit and I pay a lot of attention.
But.. that's WHY I like this town and am buying a house here :)
And won't even go near Baltimore - luckily, I don't support any site for my company there. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Any of those 'file types' associated with big companies - like Windows Media, Apple whatever... keep them.
I convert it all to MP3, no matter what format I buy it in. All the others I've tried just don't seem as good or seem to require more of a hassle (like FLAC) and don't offer much more.
This news comes out - and I think maybe 0.0001% of people are actually surprised.
The idiots in office lie and say they are for 'safety' - they don't believe it, the cops don't believe it, the public doesn't believe it - and they still go on and lie about it anyway.
But mostly - just spread this like wildfire, let people drawl their own conclusions. I'm tired of the corporate/government reach around, it's sickening.

LOL!

Then don't sell any - what do most of us care?
I promise, I won't download that music at all - even for free, lol.
On the post: TV Station Issuing DMCA Takedowns To Try To Hide Weatherman Making A Bad Joke
Odd, I don't see it mentioned as 'news' on their site, lol.
In all honesty, if a news station isn't willing to report news about themselves - they are FAIL.
So if they want to post 'take downs' for copyright, perhaps they should post it themselves then?
We should e-mail them and request it :)

Anyone want to guess how much content on Cassette tape was most likely in the same boat - illegal?
I suspect 90% + if not more.
