I'd like to claim responsibility for the adaptations of the Great Gatsby that you find in this year's Jam. I've found them on another jam that was dedicated to Gatsby remixes (as well as one particularly excellent Gatsby game by searching "Gatsby" in itch.io) and told them to submit to the Gaming Like It's 1925 jam on account of their eligibility.
The more (eligible) games that are submitted to this jam, the merrier!
Considering how friendly Capcom, Sega, and Arc System Works (all Japanese) have been about fan's works, your argument doesn't hold up about Japanese companies being more controlling than western ones.
My take is that the writers are jealous that their preferred activities in NY are currently closed down, and they're hoping that everyone else is as miserable as them;
I can't speak on on the NYT's behalf, but I can speak on my own behalf and as a New Yorker: I still have a job which never left, my gym closed down and then it reopened. I still can go to physical book stores (including my independent book store) and a physical cookware store.
So while I can currently not go to a movie theater, Broadway show, or concert, there's still a lot I can currently do, such as the things that the NYT is so worried about. This is just the NYT acting élitist.
Stop right there. There are still many single-player games being made today, mostly by independent developers. I think you mean "The most popular and lucrative games are no longer single-player".
But hey, Baghdad Bob, you do you and keep pretending that the US isn't the festering morass of suck and fail the rest of the world now sees as a fucking embarrassment to civilization.
Interestingly, that's how the US sees the state of Florida.
You can tell a lot about a guy based on who they associate with.
a.k.a. the "guilty by association" logical fallacy.
Mike heading over to Reason to be a guest on their podcast
People have other people with whom they don't agree 100% on all the time. For instance, David Sirota (a speechwriter for Bernie Sanders and husband of Colorado state senator Emily Sirota) had the likes of Ken Buck (an archconservative US representaive from Colorado) over on his podcast. They talked about things they see eye-to-eye on. I don't agree with Reason all the time (probably about half the time), but Mike's move here seemed extremely logical.
Reason is a pile of Koch-funded garbage.
Libertarian billionaires funding an openly libertarian web-site? *drops monocle in champagne glass*
The site has numerous pro-corporate articles which treat Net Neutrality and any sort of reasonable regulation as if it's government abusing its power.
Was Mike (or rather, Karl, since that's his beat) invited over to their podcast to comment? If not, what's your problem?
Its comments section is even worse and goes largely unmoderated, populated by alt-right Trumpers and spambots.
This site gets alt-right Trumpers and spambots as well. It's more moderated, but at least you can see their comments. Also, why shouldn't they moderate as they see fit?
But then again, I guess much of Reason's stances are in line with Mike "I have a Degree in Union Busti- I mean Labor Relations" Masnick.
I disagree with Mike on unions. That being said, you're being extremely disingenuous if you think that him commenting on these issues on their podcast means that he agrees with them 100%, or even 95%.
It's been painfully clear for the longest time that "Blue Lives Matter" really only meant "Black Lives Don't Matter" and the siege on the Capitol had proved it.
I'm starting to think that at least this year, the Gaming-like-it-192X game jams is starting to become a victim of its own success. What I mean by that is that there are two competing Gatsby game jams and seem to be absorbing the energy the Gaming-like-it's-192X jams usually have when it comes to making games from newly public domain works. Also, maybe people are taking the fact that copyright is expiring again for granted, which I guess is a good problem to have.
Re: Re: Depends on how you're defining 'conservative'
Now, we are told by a new high-priesthood, that what for the vast sweep of human history would have been an unexceptional view -- that biological sex is an important reality, and that segregating latrines…on its basis is a benefit to women
I guess you're ignorant of the history of bathrooms were. Public Restrooms sans privacy were a thing (at least in England) up until the renaissance where everybody got modern plumbing and thenceforth we got the idea of privacy when taking a shit. Times and attitudes change.
Reminds me of what a Daily Show writer once said during the WGA strike of 2007 about Sumner Redstone as head of Viacom suing YouTube but being cheap when it came to paying the writers:
If you're not paying [Sumner Redstone], you owe him $342 million. If he's not paying you, he's not paying you.
We've noted in past years how little traffic we get from China, and have received reports of being blocked there. However, it seems like we got a decent amount of traffic from there this year (about 0.8% of overall traffic). I'm not sure why. We did have a bunch of stories about TikTok, so perhaps that has something to do with it. China's entry seems to have pushed Sweden out of the top 10.
I'm thinking this has something to do with all the posts about Hong Kong and how they're being stripped of their autonomy and freedom. I would think that Chinese people–whether they be Hong Kong citizens or mainlanders–would take an interest in that topic.
