To answer my own question - yes, I can read at least portions of the email and it never gets marked 'read' - simply through my Google home page with the 'gmail' widget.
This whole thing has been an insipid waste of time, including ours for following it. Google should have seen the email was unread, and deleted it off its servers once validating the sender. Case closed.
But are there email clients that can 'read' the email and not mark it read (like as in the preview pane in Outlook)? Or can they tell if you change the email back to 'unread'?
If it was my account, I would close it immediately.
Obviously the bank was at fault. Why is anyone else being punished? And why ISN'T the bank?
To me, it just seems like it's a case of "a big oops happened, now someone has to pay. How can we engineer that?"
Well, banks contribute big to political campaigns. Banks get away with things like 'payroll' advances while they try to pay off legislators to ban competition. It's because bankers bascially run this greedy world, so they get their way.
If there are a couple things anyone should learn about this:
1. DO NOT use Google for ANY sensitive email at all period - I have already changed my bank over to another email address - my ISP.
2. Avoid that bank at all costs - if they screw up, they'll do a half-ass job at protecting you - I for one, would certainly not consider this case 'closed' just because Google supposedly deleted an 'unread' email.
Funny thing is, it was hearing her music *for free* (omigosh!) that made me consider supporting her in the first place.
In most cases - have you bought music without 'hearing it free' first? Be it on the Radio, at a Friends, etc?
For me - umm, nope. hehe
If there's a band I am a real fan of - I will in that case, but I've still heard their stuff first.
I own a lot of CD's and such - but I bet there are a LOT of bands out there I'd love; but since I haven't heard them...
An example is 'E Nomine' - I never heard anything of them, even though they had been out for years. Heard some of their stuff and went to Amazon and ordered a couple of their CD's. If I would not have 'heard it free' - I wouldn't have bought them.
No, the government will just steal it from them one way or another. The government legalized theft a long time ago. At least theft by the government. Of course that has been extended to politicians and big businesses (that bribe said politicians). But I digress.
You are right too - and they are probably the biggest customers for these people advertising on Craigslist too.
But seriously - WTF? Who does prostitution hurt anyway? People who cheat are gonna find it one way or the other anyway... I mean it's not like prostitution in itself is really harming anyone.
Those that do get 'harmed' in this manner - well, are going down that path anyway.
"Judd used three tools to find and communicate with these prostitutes: Craigslist, email and the telephone."
No, no - he's using many, many more.
We have the power company - the phone, email, and telephone would not have worked without it.
The coal/oil/gas/nuclear fuel supplier for the power company.
The freight companies that got the fuel to the power plant.
The companies all involved in the acquisition, refining, and distribution of the fuels used for the power companies.
And we've only gotten started....
We also have to hold any and all ISP's between his host he used to look the ads up and the ISP where the content resides - so all ISP's on the route between the source and destination.
In addition, the government - Federal, State, and Local all have various 'laws' along with the FCC that regulate communications and such - they too had a hand in making this happen.
In addition, Microsoft, Apple, or another company provided the OS he used on the client as well as the host OS on the servers, and let us not forget Cisco and other companies that manufacture routers and switches - those too were needed.
In addition - the computer's hardware is made from a great many sources, so many companies could potentially be liable too: nVidia, ATI, AMD, Intel, 3Com, SiS, Logitech, IBM, Dell, HP, Western Digital, Kingston, Antec - many, many more.
We cannot forget also the copper wire the data traveled over. But not *just* the utility company who put it there - but the people who mined the copper, the companies that refined it, the companies that made the wire and insulation.
Potentially any marketing company that advertised any of the above as well, along with any shipping, distribution company, as well - and again, the Federal, State, and Local Governments who licensed all these businesses to operate in the first place.
How long would a person be able to go on?
In the end - you could probably mix a good chuck of companies, governments, and others into this mix.
But it's true - without any one of those 'doing their part' - it wouldn't have happened on the computer - it would have happened on the city street - like it has for ages and ages.
Well, it's really no mystery - the RIAA, MPAA and Teacher's Union are more or less basically the same thing - all "unions for the workers" - in concept.
In reality they are corporations unto themselves that don't produce anything, but leech off of the work of others - which is what makes them so protective over the little pyramid scheme they have running.
I don't think the city where I live has bothered with them - but I know when I'm traveling out of town and come to a red light - no matter what the circumstances, I won't run it. If I have to jack on my brakes and get read-ended - so be it. As long as I don't run the light, all is well.
Good reason for driving rental cars out of town too.
HEY IBM! What about Microchannel Architecture - I'm SO GLAD it's in common use today because you had it patented - that helped innovation alright - it helped *others* innovate something OTHER THAN MCA - like ISA, PCI, etc.
Oh and don't forget that wonderful OS called "OS/2" - IBM's always been 'on top' of things.
I think it will go down in historical record that IBM was certainly one of the top ten companies that screwed up their own potential and made some of the worst business decisions of all time. I mean - they had the hardware market in their lap - until they got greedy with MCA.

The whole concept of suing them, just makes them look even more guilty - if that's possible.

I guess the bank's gonna have to pony up for 'ID protection' or change account numbers, etc to attempt to reduce liability.
If I would have gotten it, I really would just delete it - but who's to say what someone else might do if they get mine?
