I guess that puts paid to Fred Flintstone eating Butterschist popcorn and drinking Rockweiser beer while watching the Super Boulder on his 52" Stony Bravia flatscreen TV!
"Since when do 'spam filters' look for keywords, and then pass them on to other 3rd party companies to enable them to direct advertisements to you for profit?"
Except Google only do that in the conspiracists' world. In the real world, they actually sell advertising 'space', receive adverts from their customers, then use keywords to decide which adverts to display and where. It's rather like TV adverts in that way, in which broadcasters receive the adverts from the advertising agencies of their customers, then decide which adverts to display based on time and point in the programme. If you're going to attack Google for searching emails for keywords to use, at least do it accurately.
There's the country-specific usage that tries to impose physical geography on your digital ebooks.
While it's true that I can't purchase physical books in the UK at US prices, I can buy books at US prices in the US, then bring them back to the UK to read them, something that seems to be impossible with ebooks unless you're willing to commit a crime by stripping the malware that enforces this stupidity.
The Who's Pete Townshend has said that he loves the fact that others are inspired by his works.
The above quote is bullshit on Townshend's part. I was inspired enough by 'Behind Blue Eyes' to create a pro-Autistic version of it, and when I contacted Townshend for permission to publish it as simple lyrics (not a recording), he said no, claiming that he didn't want his works to be 'destroyed by any distortion'.
Its funny, OOTB was being praised the other day for actually having a point (and a coherent one at that). He seems to have reverted a few weeks, maybe they changed his meds again?
No, OotB making a coherent comment on here is one of those anomalies he loves to spout off about. ;)
Re: NO, was because Google didn't take it down AFTER complaints!
NO, was because Google didn't take it down AFTER complaints!
Nope, still failing to see why Google, Inc. should take something down that was posted on Facebook, a service in which they have neither ownership or control.
This is one of many failed efforts by people who want to steal inventions. Patents are upheld and valid and infringed about half the time at trial, and will continue to be so.
And what about the half of the time that patents are held to be invalid and uninfringed, and thus not upheld at all? And what about all the times the times cases never make it to court because the allegedly infringing party can't be sure about the invalidity of the patent, so pays the 'settlement fee' just in case?
Or perhaps you'll recall the French government working with Twitter to suspend several accounts that were parodies of then-President and Anthony Wiener look-a-like Nicolas Sarkozy.
You're saying that Nicolas Sarkozy's junk looks like Anthony Weiner's junk?
Re: Re: Hmm, but Mike, your living supposedly depends on re-writing!
In Australia, referencing a work in another work doesn't always require Licensing, not just attribution, because there is 'Fair Dealing'.
So by looking a copyright regime that has no fair use, your argument isn't dismantled. Merely buying the book is enough. Not every copy of her book must distribute licensing fees to the authors she referenced. The only 2 ways you can just attribute are under public domain and fair dealing. And so even though the public domain isn't growing, fair dealing is another way to see new source material.
FTFY.
and posted the following: Dear Mr. Giovanetti,
I read with some dismay your remarks at the Congress hearing about copyright reform, during which you claimed that copyright is about control. Nothing could be further from the truth, and this is made plain by Article One, Section Eight, Clause Eight of the US Constitution, which states, "[Text redacted - potential copyright infringement]" In case you don't believe me, you can read the same yourself at [Link redacted - potential copyright infringement] I guess it's a good job copyright doesn't last forever and a day, or I wouldn't have been able to quote the relevant part of what wouldn't have been a Public Domain document to make my point.
Yours sincerely, Sheogorath.
Methinks it will make my point.
If the only thing you can count on them to do is back each other up, then "Protect and Serve" really means nothing.
Oh, yes it does. It means "Protect and Serve each other".
Is it just me thinking this, or is David Cameron's real motive to prevent victims of Atos and Unum from connecting and protesting? After all, these are primarily done online.
Because of the stupid prices of ebooks and the DRM on them, I started downloading them from Project Gutenberg and similar sites instead. Of course, there's no such alternative for the music you hear in shops and pubs, so I had to download a few tracks until the launch of services like Spotify. Doesn't exactly take a genius to know the outcome of that, but those who work in 'the industry' do tend to be rather stupid.
Rumor has it that voting on your phone when it is "airplane mode" will act much like changing proxies.
And rumour would be incorrect. Airplane mode disables all your phone's wireless connections so you can use them on a plane. Works with some airlines, but jobsworths on others will still bitch at you to switch it off completely.
