As was pointed out they are buying the connectors from licensed products. So when those were made Apple got it's cut. From my understanding Sanho is not making the connector but simply buying them.
Can i buy 200k of those from sparkfun and make my own product?
If i buy them from an authorized source(original apple busted PSUs are authorized) then Apple has been paid what it wanted for it's patent when it was sold the first time.
Are you extrapolating from the ability to space-shift music from a CD onto, e.g., an iPod? That's an argument, but then again if I rip a CD to my iPod I am not temporarily giving that copy to a third-party entity who is going to commercially benefit, directly or indirectly, from my doing so, which knots up the fair use argument somewhat.
If the third party can get to it (encrypted file/vault/partition/etc) how does the third party have a copy? would it be ok if hosted the files on a co-located server? how about just a VM on a box that had other VMs? how about just a vserver?
Thats where us technical folk get lost, all a locker is, is a co-located storage space, with some auth/encryption applied to it. now the vaults are cheaper because you can't run whatever you like, or anything CPU intensive on it. As they say "you get what you pay for"(which is a lie btw but meh).
I view a vault no differently that a home server that happens to be located somewhere else for better connectivity.
Not only that but if i don't like or care for these luxury brands, how do i know a suit from company A from a suit from company B? I couldn't tell you what someone is wearing at the oscar's nor do i care much.
As of right now, an agreement with microsoft is preventing netflix from providing diskless streaming to the WII and PS3. That last i heard should be changing late Q3 early Q4 of this year.
I find netflix to be better than torrents for movies, but then again, i don't have a transfer cap on my internet service. So we just cue up a kids show when the kids want to watch one, even if it was the same one as yesterday.
can you? have you taken a driving test while texting? seen that mythbusters episode, do that, and let us know how you did.

it is different when they are sitting next to you. They can see on coming traffic and adjust conversation flow around them. They know not to talk while merging or making lane changes, or that your response is delayed because you got cut off. The audio quality is much better as well.
the bluray spec has things in it to quarry the player to find out if it is running the newest firmware, or DRM spec X.Y or something to that effect. If it finds it less that satisfactory, it refuses to play.
1080P is sure, but are 20-30GB rips with lossless sound in a container/codec that ps3 playes(not mkv, and a very limited upper subset of h264)? Are those seeded well? most 1080P i see online is not 35Mbps video with 1Mbps 7.1 audio...
I'm sure movies are trending that way, but lots of the tv shows i get from the UK are not in HD yet, simply 480P.
HD as in hard drive? or HD as in qwest's new Heavy Duty internet, or high def? or ??
As for that, while my ps3 will play a video from a harddrive, it doesn't have a bittorrent client built in, and i find it annoying to walk all over the house, so i ripped all my dvds to my desktop and use mediatomb.
My main TV is from around 1995. I plan to use it until A) I'm rich and can just drop $1000 on a new TV, or B) it blows up. So i bet most of the people getting the converter boxes(my self included) would still have needed them.
but wouldn't it then be okay to claim "unlimited internet" as 95% of our customers won't notice it not being unlimited. I generally assume that anything that makes an claim like "unlimited" or "every" or some other such thing is lying. I do think that if i want Comcast to not use "unlimited" that all other such claims should also go away, or Comcast gets to keep its not quite unlimited "unlimited".
I don't think the article was arguing that 2 way audio conversations would go away, just that the notion of the conventional(just a POTS) phone would.
As far as going out on the boat, just turn it off, and take it with you. You never know if you are going to have to call home and let them know you are going to be late, or that you caught a nice fish for dinner, or...
The backup/alternate power for the POTS network. If the power to the only cell tower in the area goes down, you are SOL, or if your house happens to be in a low coverage area.
