You cannot suggest that we are in a better place now than 10 years ago.
Not only can I suggest it, I can outright state it with a high degree of certainty. Jamendo, Bandcamp, and Magnatune didn't exist 10 years ago. Now they do. Therefore, we're in a better place now.
Or at least I am. I can imagine how the shill types would hate it...especially the ones who complain about "noise" and can't stand the thought of figuring out on their own what music to like, instead of relying on the opinions of some cigar-chomping, sangria-sipping empty suit in a high rise office building.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Don't be surprised if the public doesn't agree with your anything goes attitude!
They want control? Fine, don't release it. I have plenty of other artists to look into.
This. A million times, this. When I hear an "artist" repeatedly whinging about nobody being allowed to do anything with their work without "permission," I simply lose interest, and stop listening to their music, watching their movie or show, or stop looking at their artwork.
They can hardly complain, either. After all, I'm fundamentally abiding by their wishes...
As for pirate, I don't consider it an issue here, why even bother to bring it up?
Because if I didn't, you'd read my line "Stop defending crooks," and then be all "You say that now, but you and Pirate Mike and the rest of the gang here defend crooks like the Pirate Bay and Kimdotcom all the time! COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT! BIG SEARCH COOKIES!"
Re: Re: Re: Re: We May Have Proof of Something Else Here
Despite the fact that is was actually the Soviets, not the Americans, who finally invaded Berlin and drove Hitler to suicide?
American involvement was instrumental to WWII victory...only the most anti-American history revisionist would say otherwise. But Americans didn't single-handedly win it, either.
If you were paying attention, you would note that's already been addressed. Namely, that you have to subscribe to a cable or satellite television service (with an HBO subscription) in order to subscribe to HBO Go.
Id est, you only get to watch the shows you want on mobile if you pay about $75 a month for something you don't want.
I'm getting really tired of your crowd rabbiting on about "entitlement." Your insistence on this word only highlights the difference between the way your crowd thinks about copyright infringement and the way pretty much the rest of the world thinks about it.
The reason you keep accusing the pirates of being "entitled" is because you think they're taking something. Few outside of your industry, particularly among younger people, few it this way. They don't see where anything is being taken, therefore the accusation of "entitlement" just seems petty and disconnected from reality.
To the pirates, it's honestly like accusing someone of feeling "entitled" for viewing this webpage, or feeling "entitled" to walk down the sidewalk, or feeling "entitled" to make music in the first place.
No. Because by your own admission, you can't recoup selling copies.
Why is it any time you shill types whine about how you're not making money, and someone actually provides you a suggestion on how to make money in the modern scene, you just plug your ears and go "LALALALALA BRING BACK THE '90S!"
Guess what? It ain't happening. You will either learn to adapt to the new paradigm or you will be replaced by someone more willing to operate in its parameters. I don't see where you have any other choice.
Actually, the gradual step-down is the right method. The fewer movies you watch, the less you'll miss them. I haven't completely sworn off movies yet, but it has been about three weeks since I've watched one at all (and seven years since I saw one in a theater).
My indie consumption? Way, way up. Vodo is pretty damn cool.
