3.85 for a CD, 4.36 for a record. They lay the costs out a little different in each section.... Costs less for the marketing stuff on a record because you can print the sleeve directly, whereas a CD needs to have 2 printings (sticker and liner notes) plus assembly.
He didn't miss it, he just assumed they would bleed to death from the wound before they banded together into the Republican/Democractic (interchangeable) party...
It goes a step further than this even, in that if companies were to spend even a modest amount of money on releasing their analogue catalogues into the wild it would be anti-shareholder and potentially illegal.
This is the real problem, that they exist because of Adam Smith's term 'enlightened self interest' meaning that its assumed that if people join together it is for a common benefit. Unfortunately Smith didn't take into account that short term interest and long term interest would come into conflict here. Now that we know for a fact it does, we need to re-image the corporation to require 10 year goals or something. In that situation, suing customers for a stronger quarter and using financial wizardry to create short term profits out of incredible risk would be unimaginable.
Re: Re: Arguing exact figure just admits there are losses.
Destroying a paper bill also wouldn't really affect the economy since money has been made unconvertible into physical means since '71. The idea that this would affect anything is based on the (faulty) premise that there is cash made for every dollar created. When the Fed 'creates' 700 billion dollars and hands it to banks it doesn't print it all, it just tells them they have more.

Foot notes are used when the comment is more than a paragraph long, parenthesis can be used so that your footnote does not actually double the length of your comment.
To those who claim that getting content from an source not authorized by the copyright holder is "Stealing" I ask you this: If taking away potential economic activity (which is what you are describing when you say 'stealing music') is 'stealing', then isn't all capitalism by definition theft? Since anytime I am forced to pay for something it takes away other potential economic activity, wouldn't that definition of theft bleed into all commerce eventually?
How about taxes then? All taxes would be stealing under that definition. Allowing a copyright to exist would be stealing from every single person who does not get that copyright.
I'm not speaking about morality at all here, thats a totally separate issue, I'm speaking specifically and narrowly about the economic impact. Explain to me, without using 'right' or 'wrong' how "copyright" is different economically than a "tax" from the perspective of demanding money for services without truly asking the consumer.
Re: "[Google] spotted the site pretty quickly and shut down the account."
whats the excuse? I've never heard google make an 'excuse' about their ads. I've heard them try and explain technical realities to folk like yourself who clearly cannot grasp what they do, so automatically assume that because you don't understand it it cannot possibly be 'right', but excuses? Nope.
This. The only companies that are 'allowed' to use commercial content in their business models are the ones that would gobble the entire entertainment industry in one swallow if they were truly crossed. And even they are forced to pay ridiculous licensing fees in order to make it happen.
Open challenge: Name a single truly brilliant idea not involving copyrighted works that is as unprofitable as an equally brilliant idea that does.
Hint: Look at how little Apple and Amazon make off music sales at the end of the day.
DNSSEC is used by more than half the internet. They also ignore that the CA Certificate system would be broken as well. Basically, if your government passes this bill, ICANN will have to leave the US, or will be routed around. Anyone that thinks this result would increase US control over the 'net is insane, and deserves the future they get.
The only way that this would be true, looking at the proportions, is if the limit was ~20%, which is stupid. Also, that would be a really stupid way of coding the graph, and unnecessarily complex. Its easy just to convert votes to a %, then measure X pixels for Y % of the vote...
Remember, even if it capped out graphically at 30%, Ron Paul would still have a graph ~180% the size of Romneys....
Have you been, or talked to, a teen lately? It basically is illegal. They have municipal curfews, get constantly harassed by the police for 'loitering', there are 'no skateboarding' signs everywhere (meanwhile, the country dies of obesity...). Its not looking rosy for North America's teenagers, and hasn't for awhile.
