and just stupid that the station is taking this stance, though. if it was an honest mistake, then let people have their fun. they would have forgotten it by now anyway. and hell, you never know, you might get more viewers hoping that the weather guy is always this funny.
(oh! we need to patent comedian/weatherman combo. we'll make a killing in east texas!)
My biggest concern about ACTA is how will it affect Free/Libre and Open Source software? Is it going to be even harder for me, a near full time Linux user, to listen to new music. I already can't(easily/legally) watch Blu-Ray video's on Linux because of the DMCA and anti-circumvention laws(that and pc blu-ray drives are damned expensive). Some of the copyright restrictions seem to be able to stifle or even prevent Open Source Software development.
Whatever your feelings on FLOSS, even the loudest closed source software supporter should be able to see FLOSS's place in the software world.
no, you have it wrong.
people will let this pass because the govt will say it is "for their protection" and to "stop terrorists"
people are sheep. They don't care about economics.
If this isn't such a problem, then why have all these laws? How about instead of treating people like children, we treat them like equal citizens in this world economy. Drop ACTA, fix the patent system, and copyright laws, and let's get back to working on the important things like disease, poverty, and war.
(oh and this isn't an elective democracy, it is a constitutional democratic republic. Completely different. The Constitution is a higher power than mob rule in our system.)
yes, but as a consumer, can't i complain that i was unfairly booted off the internet (remember no charges are officially filed), and wouldn't my only recourse be to take the ISP to court?
And if the ISP doesn't give me an opportunity to resign my contract (i personally won't) and they change the terms of service that drastically I can take them to court over that issue as well.
Of course this is assuming our legal system isn't corrupt and being paid off (not a stretch by any means (see:lawyers)).
I'm just saying one lawsuit over this, especially a class action lawsuit, might make the heavy users seem like a light tax in comparison.
dude, i am all over the place. I am anti-government and anti-business. I don't know if that puts me on the right or left. I think the government needs to stay the hell out of my life and that large corporations should too. I just want to live, ya know? Without having to worry if the government is trying to protect me from myself, or big business is trying to sell me shit i don't want 24/7.
Ever read Walden? It is scary how much hasn't changed in nearly 200 years.
Well, I finally got through it all. In general it sounds like Mr. Bruno doesn't quite know what he is talking about most of the time. my favorite snippet("...small minority of copyleft and anti-label fanatics...") was spectacular. because i believe that our current copyright system is screwed up and because i prefer a free culture(copyleft) and I dislike the way labels in general treat consumers, the artists, and the law is wrong, i am labeled a "fanatic".
Well, Mr. Bruno, guess what? I am a fanatic and baseless insults won't change that. You and your kind need to change or be removed.
I am sick and tired of corporate whores acting like me and people like me who are copyleft advocates are trying to destroy the modern world. We aren't. All we want is to be free of corporate influence at every turn. I see (c), (r), and (tm) more times a day than i do anything well written. People go out of their way to make sure you know X product is covered by ten different government-mandated-monopoly laws, and patent pending(also trademarked just in case).

I might not agree with him, but i do think, for the most part, TAM gives a fairly good devils advocate stance on most subjects.

So when is the govt going to change the images and statues of Lady Liberty to a prostitute?
At least be honest about it if you are screwing me.
