I think you missed the snarky in my comment. Sorta the point like, "First they came for TV, but I did nothing cuz I don't watch TV, then they came for pirates, I did nothing cuz I don't pirate, then they came for me and nobody was left to help."

the startup world can't continue to ignore DC
I don't really see how a bunch of startups, who's company may only last a few months to five years can have the foresight to think/organize/plan a cohesive lobbying effort. When lobbying is led by industries that have existed for half-centuries or more they have the time to pull together and gain clout in political circles. The tech world is fast-paced and ever changing...DC works at a snails pace. If the federal government would do away with 3/4 of it's laws and regulations and hand those responsibilities off to local governments (who can respond and interact within rapidly changing economic/technological climates) then you would see a government more adept to handling advancement, innovation, and progress. The only problem is you are asking the lumbering dinosaur and all the industries that fight rapid change to give up its power and authority.

Of course, Dreeben is still employed by Obama and making the case for the government. If Obama was opposed to the tracking then he would have asked to drop the case...or at least the argument.

What happens when your vehicle travels onto private property? Not just your own but the private property of any one else. It is the same as the slipping a device into a coat or onto a person. If I own 350 acres in the hills there would be no way that an investigator could track my movements without trespassing.

Re:
Essentially the cost of distribution without all the artificial nuttiness of licensing, regions, and what not should determine the price. With the internet, the product costs the same to distribute anywhere in the world. Why should the price be $2.35 in Australia and $1.19 in Mexico for the same product?

So you expect the mall owner to be able to tell the difference between real and fake LV purses or Oakley sunglasses? The mall owner would also have to inspect all deliveries. The mall owner would essentially also need to have all the financial records for the store to make sure they aren't doing something fishy (like any corporation is gonna let that happen). Who is going to want to set up shop in this mall? The more you dig into this, the more ridiculous this gets. Expand this to an apartment building. Are the managers of the apartment supposed to police the residences making sure they are not engaged in illegal activity...like uploading movies to The Pirate Bay? How would he even get that information? And then you want to make him liable.

Who is gay at this IP?
Of course, with the accusation on nothing more than an IP address the owner is accused of downloading gay porn, ergo accused of being gay/bi. If the owner didn't dl the flick then I am sure he would go looking for who did...who may be his 13-year-old closeted son.
