Comparisons to Mao or Stalin are still many light years away and totally unfair to Obama. No-one in America is even remotely comparable - except maybe the Westboro Baptist Church. However, I do agree with your first line.
So, the Evil Mastermind calling himself 'Julian Assange' really had a hankering for staying in the building that currently is being used for the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, so he dreamed up this Machiavellian plan to stay there. He is actively reaching out to the young disaffected in 'Murica, corrupting their innocence and installing them with a civic conscience where none exists before, such that they feel the need to air 'Murica's hypocrises abroad and at home. And we all know, the worst sin in the world is embarrasing 'Murica, so long as you aren't the ones in charge of 'Murica, in which case you can lie and murder with impunity.
We despise all this indeed, and what worries me is that I didn't know about this, and I'm an avid Techdirt reader! I dread to think how few other people are aware of this. Something to take to the EU Data Commissioner, I think.
I wonder if Glyn moody can find out more about it...
I'd like to hassle the IRS for their *lack* of persecution of so-called religious organisations, who contrary to their provision of tax-exempt status openly campaigned for one candidate over another during the recent Presidential election. Oh, that candidate they went for was Republican. Suddenly, a deathly silence on the conservative front.
Can't have it both ways. Looks like the IRS is keeping things fair...
Also, what about the stories they've been picking on organisations with 'Occupy' etc in their name?
Re: Re: Re: Re: One more reason to tax the HELL out of The Rich.
You could argue that excessive property is theft in itself, and if the poor are fed then who cares if the rich aren't (so) rich anymore. Success doesn't have to be on the billionaire scale; nor does it have to be only measured by money.
Oh wait, you're the United Corporate Stasi of Murica...
Since when did Republicans actually care about the hypocrisy of their positions?
Patriot Act and massive spying? Started by Bush.
Deaths in embassies? Massive and ignored under Bush and Clinton.
Impeach the President? If President=Republican, lying his way into illegal and stupid wars == Free Pass. If President=Democrat, investigate over exact state of zipper or documentation - can't have 'illegal' 'immigrants' in charge of a country of 'illegal' immigrants!
Healthcare changes? Conveniently forget their failed Presidential bidder actually put it forward previously.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Holy cow! Mike takes a swipe at Wall Street!
Well, as a (European) centre/centre-left (so way left in US terms) I don't detect anything in Mike's posting that makes me twitch and reach for the (gun I never had, could never have and never want) the way that, say, the average Faux/Daily Mail poster does. Or even most US Paulbots ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H libertarians do.
I think Mike does an admirable job of keeping his personal politics out of here. That, or he does a wonderful job of being 'slightly right of centre' without all the frothing hatred and fear that seems to usually characterise their discussions.
Do you have a statistic for that... or a citation?
The only people I see whining about statistics are usually people who are anti-science, or who don't like what the statistics say. Bit like all the wikipedia dissers.
Yes, statistics can be abused. But so can many many other things - you need to keep an open mind.
