I look at the US healthcare system and I am supremely thankful for the UK NHS. Sure, it has problems but it is fair and efficient and costs the taxpayer less than the US system.
Of course, that does not stop the Tories from selling off huge chunks of it to American private healthcare companies while mainstream media completely ignore it while giving all the air time to UKIP and their bunch of xenophobic and racist europhobes.
Sorry for the rant. My point was that I agree with your point that taxes are fine as long as the tax payer gets it back in quality services.
It's like that banks going hat in hand looking for tax payer money to bail them out all the while paying their executives 7 figure salaries and bonuses.
This is Western Capitalism at work, people. Corrupt, broken and failing 99% of the population.
Seriously, where does the US keep dredging these politicians up from? Is there some sort of farm where they are being bred? The number of truly spectacular brain farts from American politicians makes the UK look like Mensa, and that takes some doing.
My biggest bone of contention with US networks is this silly practice of region blocking content. Being from the UK, I often have to wait months for content assuming we get it at all. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are good examples and the differences between content in the US and elsewhere are vast. Good services are made not so good by region blocking. I know you can change DNS or IP settings but people should not have to do this.
There is absolutely no technical reason why content cannot be made available online globally. There is even no technical reason why people in the UK, for example, should not be able to subscribe to online cable services. As far as I can see, the only reason for region blocking is control and even that is negated by piracy.
The Internet does not have borders and I believe the licensing laws need to be upgraded universally to reflect this.
Except that copyright was never mentioned in the election so the public cannot know a politician's stance on it when they are voting. This means that the public are NOT being properly represented when it comes to copyright.
