Well how about sending an e-mail with a link to infringement? That way when you e-mail starts to send out spam because you got hacked it is not only a hassle but means jail time as well.
I mean, we all know that an IP address is enough to go after someone so surely an e-mail from your account must mean you are a filthy pirate who needs to do hard time.
He just knows that once something is law then no one is likely to go back and change it. So he just wants to put in a footnote saying "we will think about this for a bit before we turn it on". That translates to "Once we pass this we can ignore it for a year or so then suddenly turn that part on and claim that we 'thought about it for a year'"
Wait!?! You are going to notify him!! Don't give him special treatment, never notified anyone when taking they domains. Just let him find out by the notice nailed to his door when he comes home.
Umm, people are being taken to court over music playing in the background of a video with their baby dancing. There are also people remixing music that use a few seconds of a song in their remix and are taken to court. So yes 1/8 is more than enough.
Ahh, the fun of laws. It is illegal to talk about overthrowing the government but if it is my plan to overthrow the government then why do I care about their laws? Really if you read those though I can talk about overthrowing the government all I want. The key is that I cannot talk about doing so with violence. At least those sections I just read all clearly stated by violent means.
So I can sit here and say that I would like to get together a group of people and go have a peaceful march on Washington where we are going to take over.
Sadly we all know that it would just end with a peaceful march nothing would change though.
The not wanting someone to worship a depiction of him does indeed make sense. I don't really think you can use that argument for getting upset about South Park though. I mean really, do you see a confused Muslim worshiping South Parks depiction?
You know I really hate to come up and pop your little utopia bubble, BUT that was still censorship. Just because what was censored was offensive to some people does not turn censorship into "courtesy and good taste".
I might not agree with what someone does or says but I am not going to censor them. A prime example would be that I personally hate the westborro baptist church and what they do, BUT I would fight for their right to go out and do what they do.
That is what freedom of speech is. The right to go out and say whatever you want no matter who it upsets. I will fight for peoples right to do just that even if I don't agree with what they have to say. I just hope others will stand with me and fight for my right to say whatever the hell I want as well.
You know that could really become interesting if they just are required to keep blocking IP's. If I was running a site they blocked that way I would setup a mirror site and constantly get the IP changed all while reporting these IPs the the blocker personally. It would be fun to see how big a block of IP addresses I would be able to get blacklisted. Before long doing that you would start having lots of legal sites trying to open only to find they were unlucky enough to get one of the hundreds of bad IPs.
Umm, Ok, so please tell me how my copyright lasting 70 years after I am dead motivates me to make more stuff.
I can accept that having a copyright of a few years makes me want to make more things. This way I get more money, but as it is if I write a best selling novel and it keeps steady sales I can kick back and not make anything else. Why make new things if I can just roll in the money from my old work?
Even more to the point though is why would I give a damn about my copyright after I'm dead? You think I'm going to sit up after I have been dead ten years and go "Damn I need to get to work on that novel"
Well I would also point out that no one with a brain would run a company and knowingly pirate software for their company to use. Sure you can get away with it but all it takes is one audit to destroy your company that you worked hard to build all because of some stolen software. People with brains enough to make a company worth having recognize this.
So why are they even on the books? That is something that drive me insane. They add law after law and then ignore over half of them. If you are not going to enforce it then trash it.
I also might be mistaken but I think a lot of those laws pertain to if you are already married. Kind of a there as a stone to throw during a divorce. I am curious how many actually pertain to single people sleeping around.
Well the anti-polygamy laws date back to before computers. So I doubt the laws are there for that reason. More likely reason would be religious persecution without calling it that. Of course these laws are from a time where people were not so open about sleeping around.
Point is still the same though, a lot of laws really do not make sense if you step back and look at them from an unbiased view. That is the problem of ramming things through "for the children". Most of the time you ram through something that was really illogical and missing the real point. Lawmakers love getting into a frenzy feeling they must do SOMETHING and they fail to slow down and think of what that something should be.
Indeed, while speaking on how stupid laws can be. You point out how he is ignoring polygamy when it is blatant and on television. That is stupid due to ignoring laws that are on the books. I hate how government makes all these laws and selectively enforces them.
I also find that law to be very stupid and before you jump all over me, listen to explanation. I do not support polygamy, personally I am just looking one great girl and that is all I need, BUT why is there a law against polygamy?
Look at the world today. I can legally go out and sleep with multiple women each night. There are no laws against me knocking up girls left and right. On the other hand there is a law saying I cant take legal responsibility for more than one girl? How is marrying more than one girl so evil and sleeping with a bunch of them without marrying them is just fine?
Ahh yes, reading comprehension really is that much of an issue here in the USA sadly. I think that largely accounts for how so many of these horrid laws get passed. Most can barely read kids books, there is no hope of them understanding these laws.
This is a prime example of what is wrong with our current system. The idiots running this country HATE to ever say they were wrong. They will fight tooth and nail to try and "make it work" just to they don't have to come out and say "I made a mistake so we just tossed that idea".
I really think Lobo has the right idea though. They need to start cleaning up the old laws, toss out the ones no longer needed and fix those that are being abused. THEN they can go back to thinking about new ones.
Where do you see an article suggesting "the entertainment industry is dying"? Maybe you should slow down when reading things here. Apparently some of the things are a little to complex for you to grasp. There is an article suggesting that the entertainment industry is GROWING.
I seem to remember reading a news story a while back about some group actually managing to shut down TPB servers. The site was back up within 2 hours. They simply switched over to the backup servers they already had in place.
The guys behind pirate bay are not stupid and they are watching what is going on. They have shown already that not only do they watch their opponents moves, they also anticipate their actions and plan accordingly.
Taking the pirate bay down will not happen with monstrous laws such as this. The laws are too large, too slow, and all around too clumsy to do the job. It is like trying to run down a fly with a steamroller.
