We already have to worry about our children getting sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars for including quotes in their school book reports. I would say it has gotten way, way past 'silly' and into the realm of incomprehensible.

I do hope you aren't suggesting that these posts are not worth protecting simply because they don't make sense to you or me. They represent a very real opinion, regardless of how poorly it is presented, and that means the decision to 'censor' it would be based solely on the personal opinion of the person removing it.
Personally, I like the system here at TD which allows peer review to hide a post without actually deleting it completely.
So the bottom line seems to be that the MAXIMUM possible effect of file sharing is a 10% loss, while the MINIMUM effect is a 0,7% gain. Clearly even the worst case scenario does not justify the degree of societal damage being inflicted by this battle.
To be fair, his father was one of our better Prime Ministers, which makes him the best option in a long time. That's not necessarily a good thing, just a point of reference.
As a rule the RSMP are an excellent police force. I have rarely encountered - or even heard of - RCMP officers gone bad. That's not to say they don't exist, just that the majority of the force tries to makes up for them. Compared to _any_ of the private city police forces I have encountered the RCMP are absolutely incredible.
That's a bit different. I think - the article really doesn't explain much. While I believe the allowed charges are ridiculous, at least in your example she _seems_ to only be targeting businesses(granted those include non-profit, but they still issue pay cheques). Also she is working within the law, even if we don't agree with either it or her. The above school board actively committed fraud but are getting away with it because it is a minor case and they wield a great deal of power. And it is Canada - sometimes we really suck.
Granted, but it's still a pretty major item. It's the thing that I believe has caused the majority of bad relations between consumers and producers. It's also the thing that has brought the most attention to the problems with existing copyright laws. Finally, it's the first real sign I've heard of any sort of recognition that culture has changed. No matter how you look at it it's an amazing - and shocking - statement.

Normally I would say the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but I actually think this study does represents that middle ground.
