"The idea that things like The Pirate Bay needs to be stopped or there won't be incentives to create are pretty much disproved right here."
Er...there. On the other hand, I would argue that the opinion about one of the most prolific CREATORS that Copyright nazis are always hiding behind being in direct conflict WOULD constitute proof that ther WOULDN'T be a dissapearance of creativity.
"How bad is it when our schools are battleground for whom can out-propaganda the other?"
Uh...really? When HAVEN'T they been? If I had gone to school, sat down in a history class, NOT been forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance (how creepy is that shit, btw?), and gotten an impartial history lesson on ANY aspect of America I'd probably have shat myself.
"I'm sick and tired of people claiming that one group or another is "out to destroy" America. These groups have differing views and opinions, but they are all doing what they *think* is best to uphold American values. You can disagree with their beliefs and their tactics, but claiming they are trying to destroy the US is ignorance"
The groups, yes. The people pulling the strings behind the scenes that are involved w/these groups...much more suspect.
Just to make sure I understand the issue correctly: A two year old -- who's cognitive capacity to make and retain permanent memories is EXTREMELY limited, btw -- grabbed a knife, in some way did some kind of damage to his little brother with it, and....we're blaming video games?
Again, to understand:
1. a 2 year old was allowed access to a knife sharp enough to be considered dangerous
and
2. a 2 year old and 5 month old were under so little supervision that the 2 year old was allowed to do any kind of stabbing with this knife that he had access to
"Admittedly, the world of copyright law is beyond complicated"
And isn't that a huge part of the problem? Isn't it an egregious mistake to create a law system that supposedly takes 6-8 years of schooling to understand, and then apply that system to EVERYONE (most of which won't do those 6-8 years)?
It's that complication that allows groups like the RIAA to potentially take legal action against these kids, then when asked they can just shrug and say "Hey, the lawyers said we had to do this".
Not to mention that you can be sure the OTHER side had lawyers too. It would only be justice if BOTH lawyers got fined into oblivion and were forced to fellate each other for the Court's visual enjoyment...
You have to love SoundExchange, the band that listed "UNCLE KRACKER" on its "artists we wish we could find but can't, so we'll go ahead and just keep this money" list...
I call it what the law calls it: infringing. The law defines stealing/theft and infringing differently. Pretending their the same is an emotional argument and legally incorrect.
"It's not really any different than shoplifting a DVD from Target"
For starters, it is VERY different from shoplifting from Target. If Target has 3 copies of ABBA on their shelves and I shoplift one, they now have 2 remaining. If I fileshare a copy of ABBA, I have not deprived any copies from anybody at any time. How can you not see the difference?
"with the small exception of it being easier and having a significantly reduced chance of being caught"
I would like to see a comparison of two things. 1 - How many people know how to and are capable of shoplifting something from Target and how many of them know how to and are capable of downloading and successfully using a torrent, and 2 - How difficult it is for someone in law enforcement to successfully identify someone who is infringing via download compared with someone who is shoplifting. I think you might be surprised by both.
"Is the studio's business model outdated? Hell yes. Does that mean people should get stuff for free? Hell no."
Actually, that's EXACTLY what it means. Supply and demand have spoken, and the price for RECORDINGS is free...sorry.
"Someone, sometime has to pay or the product stops getting produced."
Agreed, but that has nothing to do with downloading. The product encompasses a lot more than the recordings being dl'd.
"Whether you pay by forking over some cash or watching a few ads, the folks producing the content would like to both make their money back and make a tidy profit."
They can want anything they like, but it's on THEM to figure out how to make money on their product, not us.

I like this hunch thing....
Tgeigs' numbers say that 94.6% of those working at/with the BSA are child molesting nun-slappers.
Oooooh, this IS fun!
