i think sprint is allowing unlimited becuase it owns the physical pipes along with their usage of the bandwidth. I'm not sure Verizon owns nearly as much as sprint does and may even be purchasing some of their bandwidth from Sprint and that is why Verizon still has a cap.
Lets us know we're getting there, wherever 'there' is.

I like that idea. It goes along with the young always wanting to rebel against the last generation and by getting the young to use the new eventually it does assimilate into culture.
i have to imagine that there are about 3 types of netflix users
1 movie buffs - these guys will want their movies right when they come out and with this change they can't get it on netflix right away. instead they will either purchase the movie, download it while buying it, or else pirate it. My bet is on pirating it or they find a friend who bought it and watch their copy.
2 regular users - the new movies will goto the back of the queue (they probably already were in the queue with the status reserved for when available) and pretty much the consider whenever they get it through netflix they think that is when the movie was released. I am this kind personally as when i see a sweet preview for a movie in the theater i just add it to my netflix queue and expect it at my door in 9-12 months and not even give another thought to the movie.
3 people who have netflix in lieu of cable/satellite and get their TV through the internet as well. Im considering going this route myself as it would save my cable bill some money. These types don't care about movies and will not have an incentive to purchase these new movies either.
I don't think this policy will change much of anything.
i dont think crowing "that's my boy" is the reason I'm encouraging my son into sports. I am encouraging him into sports because he always asks to play them and i know that once he has grown up he and i will be able to share that if it still interests him. My dad pushed me into golf when i was real young and years later i now play golf with my dad as much as i can. I also take my 3 year old out onto the course with me. it's a great chance for me to get some exercise as well as him. (walking 18 does burn calories believe it or not) I also look forward to my son learning to ice skate and play hockey with me when he is older. Men's league is fun and all but itll be great teaching him to do all that given that he enjoys it.
hey that's good info to know! I'm quite impressed that it can make that much money, I am an avid XKCD viewer and I thought today's (10/14/09...i know this post will be dated but just in case) was pretty good!
of these 3 previous posts i found all the arguements interesting. I don't think we need to throw Mike under the bus here as from previous posts he has said that the patent system does have its use but that sometimes it is misused which i think everyone can agree on.
I don't think that he makes a real living off of selling prints and what not from the XKCD site. I'm pretty sure he kept his day job at NASA. It would be interesting to see the profits that XKCD really makes its author.
Big 10 network offers ALL conference sports games streaming to international customers (non US or Canada), and i'm pretty sure all it takes to become an international customer is a proxy server in another part of the world. Hopefully the other conferences will follow suit for that. I know there is a place where you can stream NFL games online as well but I can't remember it off the top of my head.
I appreciate the info on the math question that canadians have to perform in their sweepstakes. That is a hilarious thing they do up there! Will make good lunch table talk this afternoon
"The point, though, was that it was a bit hypocritical of her to be going on and on about how evil it is to copy another's work without their permission, when she went and did the same thing."
In all fairness I don't think she did the same thing, because she always has and always will have your permission to use your blog posts Mike. I think you misstated that and meant that she probably should have at least referenced your article.
I ditched cable a few months ago and just watch my TV shows online. I decided i hated cable companies, i just wish i wasnt getting my internet through them but i dont have a choice unless i want to go back to 56k....
