So if Snowden's leak "harmed America," then why hasn't anyone jumped on the opportunity to attack? If they are making this like Snowden revealed all of these secrets and is threatening to destroy national security, then someone should've jumped on that and do something about it.
If this is "nothing new" then why are they making a big deal outta this!? This seems like attention getting if they're trying to make one guy look like the biggest threat to the US, or just something to top the previous scandal.
There's that part of me that's thinking why hasn't these countries stop their trading with the US? After all the NSA has been spying on these countries, so why haven't they stop trading with someone holding every little secret about them?
Well there are reasons, but really I'm thinking anyone with some sense might've gone with cutting relationships with the one holding all of their secrets.
... You do realize that a good majority of the world probably never even heard TechDirt, let alone believe it is being paid by Google to be "pirate apologists." (which it is not). And fray, do you have any proof of us being zealots and pirates?
If you do, where's the proof? If not... then you're just proving a point.
I wonder if I should get my patent on how to stop automated copyright/patent/trademark trolling... If this guy wants to get his hands on automating, then I should get one to stop his claims! Three different patents with the same effects for three different problems! It's genius I say!
(I know it isn't, but hey considering the way things are...)
OK, I'm just responding to this comment and answering this as a whole:
I will agree with both you, the AC right below and Dark Helmet. From the way I see it, there's no true person we should blame in terms of parenting and the entertainment industry, but as dennis deems points out below, we're living in a society that celebrates, glorifies and even sexualize violence.
And I'm not saying that this is a bad thing... well, it is where it's at a point where we're pinning blame on a medium despite the fact there's little to no evidence to support these theories. OK, it's not bad to have some violence, but not in the way it is celebrating it. And part of it does stem from the fact that the system sees this as a selling point and it is making money off of it!
Plus I have to say that even though I've played a few violent games, I never have the intention of killing anyone... besides mosquitoes. So yeah, even with the disturbing imagery in my head, all attempts of killing are going to kill off mosquitoes.
But I do tend to agree that we need to do something to prevent the glorifying of violence. I really don't mind the violence, but if we can find a way to tone it WAY down and get a good amount of people off each other's backs... and maybe get some common sense before jumping to conclusions, and also mourn the lost before blaming others, then we could have a better understanding of how things go down.
Re: So... You're saying people would rather get it free...
You know... I love their idea of doing the "pay what you want." Tell you what, once I find a way to start my stuff like what they're doing (and get some original stuff up)...
YOU'RE the only one that's going to be paying for it! No freebies, just straight up paying... and not that cheap either!
I have a mental health condition and I never fired a gun in my life (held a few, but never fired one). Sometimes a mental condition can't be fix by giving him medicine or supportive care.
And I'm sorry if I'm coming off rude, but again there are a few times that a person can't be heal with that kind of condition. Yes you can make the person feel better, but it's not a permanent fix.
True, but then again all of this really boils down to one thing:
Whether or not we should be blaming parents or the entertainment business, if someone has some common sense in their head, then we wouldn't be having this argument!
... That's really what I'm keep hearing out of this.
And I just wish that we have something to prove that no matter what we see, when we get to a certain age that these things will be determined whether or not it's real or not. People are far more intelligent than who is in Congress.
And you know, if this is such a big deal, then why aren't they taking this to where this is coming from? Since Hollywood, the music and gaming industries are the ones "responsible" for making these violent messages, then should they be the ones to take the blame? I can see this as being a same issue if there's a whole lot of sexual imagery going around and there's a wide boom in sexual activity going on in the country.
But there's really nowhere we can go with this. It's one for the parents to decide whether or not to get their family what is appropriate for them to watch, and it is up to the entertainment industry to help provide content that is family-friendly and safe for the general public. But we don't have that and it's not going to change unless people get smart and learn what is right and what is wrong.
... And I would like to say that sometimes, people are just crazy because they are like that. They rarely need something like a movie or video game to make them snap. It just take the right motivation from the right person to make that crazy person go mad. And this is part of the reason why I don't bother with crazy people (most of the time) and I tend to keep my mouth shut (again, most of the time).
To when we get people in charge that actually knows these things instead of relying on (probably) bogus studies, then we'll see some changes. Otherwise, stay away from our games and shows. We don't need any more government influence on our entertainment...
... Well I feel like I don't need any help from the government in giving me a monopoly to the stuff I created. And $100? Dude, I'm giving my stuff away for free! That's WAY better than what you're offering (that is if you're offering anything).
And HA! I got a ton of projects myself and I don't need money to get those done? Why? Because frankly, why should I be paid to sell out my stuff when I can create my stuff when I want without anyone giving me a schedule to work with and how they want my product to be? I do like money, but I don't necessary need it for my projects because they can be done for free. I can write for free and I can draw for free. You're offering up your services for $100 and I haven't seen a single thing outta you.
You're funny. Really, you are. I haven't made a single cent yet in my trade, and I consider myself devoted to the arts more than you are.
Re: "talking points" more effective than I thought.
Uh Blue, words are influence. Ever heard of a silver tongue? If someone has this, then their words can affect them and then they can win people over on this side. Money is just an added bonus.
And no. Why should he care about that link? It's more or less annoying than... whatever you're thinking about.
bob, I already have the right to create... and none of it is intellectual property. And I don't need protection. I am happy with people looking at my stuff without the fear of being watch by some nosy people
And if I were to call the cops, it'll be to get rid of people like you. Thanks...
First, "alleged?" How can you be "alleged" if you're an Ivy Leaguer? Unless you fake being one, but still...
Second, he's referencing the game, you blockhead! You're calling Mike out on a spelling error, compare to your growing number of grammar and spelling errors. Funny...
Do what for a reason? DRM? And does it? Can you cite a reference where it does?
"Open your mind. Understand you don't have all the numbers."
My mind's already open. And what about you? Do you have these numbers to back you up?
"There are young kids who don't know how to pirate and will try to share the DVD."
Do you have any idea what that sentence means? I don't, but unless you're trying to say that a kid doesn't know how to download a program, you're an idiot. That's basic knowledge! I'm pretty sure that if you give a kid a computer and tell him to rip a video off YouTube, I'm sure he'll find a way to do that in seconds. There's your "pirating."
"This will stop them."
Ha-ha, that's funny.
"Reddit is the tiny, tiny, vocal minority."
HAHAHAHAHA... You're an idiot.
"Do you know Diablo 3 sold over 8 million copies and has always online DRM that couldn't be cracked?"
And why should I care? If you're trying to sell me the game, that isn't working...
"It works."

Please, for all of the times I tell you to get off the computer, for the love of God DO THAT! Seek medical help! There're people out there that can treat you! No one's going to (or will) take you seriously if you keep on posting this nonsense!
