This nonsense from Brandis triggered a national FacePalm Day marked by mournful bugling and half-mast flag ceremonies... er... or, at least, it should have.
You write like HUD is a good thing. I get how HUD can be an aid, but it can also be a distraction. It's one thing to have a simple speed indicator but once you start adding a bunch of navigational indicators it becomes a whole other thing.
I'm guessing that military pilots are highly trained in using their instrumentation and are also heavily supported with other (ground) personnel while in operational manoeuvres. That's something the average motorist doesn't get.
Extract : "In the past 10 years, kopi luwak has won the hearts — and wallets — of global consumers. A cup sells for $30 to $100 in New York City and London, while 1 kg of roasted beans can fetch as much as $130 in Indonesia and five times more overseas. The ultimate in caffeine bling is civet coffee packed in a Britannia-silver and 24-carat gold-plated bag, sold at the British department store Harrods for over $10,000. The justification for these exorbitant prices? A claim that kopi luwak is sourced from wild animals and that only 500 kg of it is collected annually. The claim is largely nonsense." Crazy rich folks.
Yes, the torrid gun debate was clearly not enough here and needed some racism to be added. Well done. I'm just surprised politics and religion were left out.
If everyone had a cost-free choice of Blu-Ray or DVD, are you saying people would ignore Blu-Ray? I seriously doubt it. Not only is the picture quality significantly better, but sound quality is better, too.
If you start watching a movie at DVD quality and switch to Blu-Ray quality, you'd never want to use DVDs again, subject only to data caps or cost premiums.
Looks like Nintendo will have to update their Wii - Health and Safety Precautions instructions sheet.
WARNING - Opening Your Front Door Give yourself plenty of room. You will probably be shot by Police while answering the front door while using the Wii Remote, so be careful that all areas that you might move into are clear of other family members. Make sure that furniture, objects and people are out of the kill zone so you don’t accidentally bump into them while falling to your death. Also, as indicated in the Wii Operations Manual, it is recommended to stay at least three (3) feet from Police holding firearms. To avoid sudden death, make sure you remove the Wii controller safety strap from your wrist and place the controller down before answering the front door.
You definitely don't want to be hit in the face by a Wii controller. It hurts something bad. I'm sure it was just reflexes of the officer who probably plays Wii tennis a lot with her partner.
Why are so many people so quick to want more tough laws? It seems there is a constant demand for more policing, more penalties, more arrests, more sentences, more lawsuits, government intervention.
With all the current problems of authorities abusing their positions of power, we should be considering less. In this case we're talking about a boy with a toy being prosecuted. Has our society gone mad?
The War on Drugs has not only failed to stop drugs, it has become a yolk on our shoulders with it's enormous and ever-increasing budget. The War on Terror has equally been a heavy burden with scant results. The largesse of all the "security" agencies for no tangible effect is staggering. Is this really how people want our society to progress?
So much for businesses making our lives more comforting. With all the aggressive activity occurring in the competitive arena for our last pennies, we're not getting any peace to enjoy our illusions of freedom, choice, and entertainment.
What ever happened to the rule of giving the customer what (s)he wants?
If Glass had been created back in, say, the 50's it would've been lauded as a great contribution and benefit to society, putting aside the lack of technical ability that existed at the time for the hypothetical to work.
It's interesting to observe how in today's environment of abusive government activities, widespread mass surveillance, and heightened safety/privacy concerns, products like this are viewed with a very different perspective, and by different I don't mean rose-coloured.
