Okay let me make myself a little clearer. I KNOW why they have not. What I would have liked to see is those reasons being discussed. They skirted around the issue when talking about them being underserved customers who are trying to get around the artificial walls which the content companies erect in the name of more profit.
It was a good interview, and I liked seeing both sides present for the argument. I know that time was limited, but I would have loved to see them get into why items like iTunes or Amazon Mp3 have not killed piracy, and other such details.
And it would reappear at a different IP w/ a different name under something else 20 minutes later. What was accomplished? Nothing. Its as though they are setting the law up to fail if only to prove they need even stricter laws and international agreements to combat online piracy.
I agree that shutting down google maps, gmail, g+ all being a bad idea. Shutting down their normal search results should be a wake up call to the businesses that are using them that they should speak against this crappy law as well. Having to use Bing is like asking the blind paraplegic to join my pickup game.
The whole idea is to get the dissenting position on tape which can be then brought the the judicial committee and added to the record. Perhaps it may sway enough of the members that a real debate can be brought forward with reps from Tech and those of the RIAA and MPAA and their misguided brethren.
Lamar Smith is only saying that because he feels safe in his job. He doesn't think that his district could swing to another candidate, and so he is safe to be a bombastic blowhard.
As with Ryan it is clear that only the actual threat of losing their position of power can get our politicians to actually act in the interests of the people they are supposed to represent.
As a father I have no idea how I would respond to finding out that my government though their own incompetence deported my daughter as an illegal immigrant.
You can't have it both ways on this one. There is no confusing that statement. Trying to add a reasons why it has a different definition then vs now is insulting. Lamar is one of the least qualified persons to even be voting on it. Let alone in charge of the proceedings. The stench of corruption on this is palpable.
