They are trying to move forward and take a positive step towards embracing the new technology. It might have taken some time but a step forward and a step forward. Now to hope they continue to move forward and others soon follow.
Well duh, this is what Amazon gets for trying to offer something the consumer wants. How dare they try and do that! The customer should be forced to read books the way publishers want not the other way around.
Citizen,
You have been found guilty of thinking. As you should very well know independent though is very dangerous and highly illegal. You must trust your mighty government overlords with full confidence. Confidence like that you place in the gumball or other candy dispensary machine from which you enjoy simple pleasures. We will be sending a unit to your house to ensure your though control device is properly enabled. Also please note we are being open about this workshop and feel that this is enough openness for one year. Please remember to serve your government well and trust us, we are doing what is best for you.
We thank you for your time Citizen
Well whats even worse is since they err I should say Mandelson would have the power to change copyright law at whim. I assume this would even mean copyright changes in this bill such as the three strikes law. Couldn't they just drop it from three strikes to one?
I really hope this doesn't get a chance to pass before the next General Election and perhaps at least a few somewhat intelligent paid minions have the mind to stand against the bill.
Either it is because unauthorized copies will not have access to the security updates and patches which would leave them more vulnerable. It could also be the new Black Screen of Death, its just MS is having trouble getting it to work on just unauthorized copies :D
So they shifted from annoying lawsuits to even more annoying commercials. Their "You can't surf and talk" commercial is fairly pointless to begin with but the other one is by far the most annoying commercial. They split it into two parts and if you don't see the first part you just see a moron throwing pictures at a map calling out city and state names.
Hmmm so perhaps the U.S. government will be the next target between the collection agencies and their ever growing entitled amount of income. Probably will be something like "If we don't stop these laws the industry will crumble down faster than it almost did when the former piracy net existed"
Well the only solution obviously is for all users to ship every item being sold to ebay so they can then inspect it, confirm it is legit and legal, and then approve it for sale.
No its just that science and all technological sectors rely on copying and enhancing the original persons work. Science already divides the same work up between numerous teams trying to do the same thing in 100 different ways all keeping their research a secret hidden from everyone until they are done. If they all worked together on a common problem, shared results and news openly and freely then others could learn from those mistakes much faster and fix possible problems or avoid those they might have. Sure some might share their work but 85% of the time its all about hoard it and keep it secret instead of working towards the collective benefit of the entire world. But of course moving society forward at a faster pace is bad for collection agencies and those who only thrive on the old models and fail to change with technology.
"Pirates" as you refer to them buy because they care about the artist and want to support them. They buy because you can't download a concert and NEVER can you download the experience. There are numerous reasons as to why they download but only a few solid reasons why they buy and supporting the artist by buying CDs, going to concerts, etc is because they enjoy the music and want the ARTIST* to make money.
*Note I said artist not the collection agencies which loose the checks and are unable to "find" the artists and treat all but the top dog like crap. Because who cares about the other 99% of the artists when you have three top artists making money for themselves and everyone else making money for you.
So you find it good that a treaty is being discussed in secret? With pretty much no input from those outside the entertainment industries? And I suggest you review your history and Mike's earlier post on this and if you could please provide me with EXAMPLES of treaties which were discussed in total secret except for those who have something to gain from that treaty. If we have nothing to worry about then why not let everyone view what is being done and said? What is so terrible and evil in there that the eyes of the public should not be allowed to view if it is such a good thing?
Well then a DMCA takedown could be issued in some form or fashion until the video was fixed. Or DirtTech could be setup in East Texas and sue for copyright infringement or some rubbish.
I love the last part of the article where it appears to be talking about reducing levels of illegal file sharing by 70 percent, although its not clear if its overall or for the individual user. I would however enjoy knowing how this company will know what is illegal and what is not regardless. Are they just going to say any traffic possibly associated with something that looks like file sharing is automatically illegal? Or will they do deep packet inspection of all internet traffic or place some sort of software on your computer to monitor your activity? Or are they just an all knowing entity that waves its hand and just know.
I wasn't too worried about the removal of dedicated servers but when they were asked if the game was a console port and their response was:
"We included custom features for the PC such as mouse control, text based chatting, and the ability to adjust graphical settings"
I lost all respect for this horrific company.
"You only need to be first not the "only", and that is for the parties to the lawsuit to show not me."
If you read even some of these comments you would have seen several bottled water companies named that have been doing this since the late 1800's and early 1900's. So they were first.

No homework has been done and one cannot be found, you use this line because you know there is not a case in which this is true and therefor have to try and insult others instead.
