I don't think we should keep referring to Smith and the others as clueless. I think they are very clued in. They are doing exactly what the people that pay them tell to do. If they get voted out for their efforts, there will be a huge pay raise raise and job waiting for them as a reward for their efforts.
Damn, any Republican's that were on the fence will now have to come out strongly in support of SOPA. No way they can be on record agreeing with Al Gore in an election year.
I've wondered the same thing about EPSN3. ESPN generally streams every game that they broadcast, which is nice. But they generally only have 2 or 3 commercials per game, so I end up seeing the same commercial 10 times. Plus, I get to look at the ESPN logo while in spot that I assume is reserved for a local commercial? I don't understand why they don't just stream the same commercials that are on TV.
Are they selling the ad time for streaming separately?
A drive-in theater in Lexington VA over Labor Day weekend; $6 a person for a double feature of Captain America and Rise of Planet of The Apes. The concession stand was 1970 era pricing, $1 hotdogs, $1.50 sodas, etc. The screen wasn't that bright, but bright enough. The sound was FM over your radio, but none of that mattered. The social experience was so much better than staying home or a modern mall theater that I would be there every weekend if I lived in Lexington.
The theater experience can be better than staying home in so many more ways than 3D or million dollar sound systems.
I wonder if Liberty could be found liable (either criminally or civilly) if a gay person outed because of this case commits suicide due to the fallout of being outed?
//I wonder... Is it possible to teach children through Khan Academy and a home schooling regimen? It seems a lot more could be learned by giving parents more choices in how their children study rather than governmental interference.//
Well, my son, who has never been to school, just got a near six figure college scholarship offer, He did most of prep for the math part of the SAT via Kahn, and this semester he is learning Statistics via Khan, Python via MIT, and Macroeconomics via Utah State. The fact that I suck at 2 out 3 of those means nothing when he has access to such a wealth of resources online. Other than the '3 Rs," which are mandatory, we pretty much let him study whatever he wants. It's working just as well for his sister too.
Even if they did have the power to block online classes in CA, that won't save any jobs when the people that want online classes just take them from a school not in CA.
I was paying $15.99 for the 2 DVD plan. Now I'm paying $19.99. I'm going to drop the service over less than the cost of a large soda at the theater? I don't think so. We cycle through 5 or 6 DVDs a month plus probably 20 hours of streaming, for 1/2 the cost of taking the family to a single movie. It's still a great deal.
Neither of my teenagers will open a Facebook account, because, as they put it, if I'm on Facebook it can't be cool. Neither of my teenagers is drinking or doing drugs either.
So obviously, hanging on out FB as a parent keeps your kids away from drugs and alcohol.
And people told me this parenting thing would be difficult.
I thought it was interesting that the two shows tracked were not "geek" type shows where you would expect a particularly online savvy audience. These were two mainstream shows that I would guess appeal to the 24-49 soccer mom set. Yet, torrent downloads still went way up.
If was tweeting anonymously though he would be just another joker spewing his opinion over the Internet. The fact that he wasn't anonymous, that he was an accountable public official telling us the truth, is what made his tweets valuable, and quite frankly, made him dangerous in the eyes of the anti-vaccine crowd.
I'm a supporter of anonymity online, but I don't think this is a case that really supports that issue. This is a case of public officials forgetting that telling the truth should never be discouraged.
I believe just about every school still provides an email address for each student. I suspect since the schools are sending important info, class schedules, etc via email now, they gain some cover against claims of not receiving it if they control the entire email infrastructure. If the kid is forwarding his campus email off to Gmail and didn't get the notice that a test time changed, it's not the schools problem since they did deliver the notice to his campus email address.
Just last week I called DISH to cancel my service. They kept making offers to get me to stay, and they finally pulled out what must be the last ditch offer - $14.99 for all my local channels plus about 20 cable channels, including the only two channels my wife watches (HGTV and Food). $15 a month to keep the wife happy, as she wasn't really sold on the cancel cable idea? I'll take it!
She asked 7NEWS not to use her name for fear of retaliation for speaking out.

Oops.
My wife is a Type I diabetic. She has had a TSA agent take her insulin vials from her, hold them up to a light, shake them, and then look at them as though he could tell anything from doing that, and them return them, having somehow magically ascertained that it was just insulin.
